  • which is my main counterpoint to the OP’s point of view since such a perspective justifies not voting for the lesser evil to send a message to Democrats that they need to field better candidates.

I don’t think this is effective. I consider the centrist messaging that progressives stayed home to “teach democrats a lesson” to be how centrists frame their unwillingness to appeal to an electorate they want to rule instead of serve.

  • So how can this nightmare cycle be broken?

Vote blue no matter who hasn’t worked. Even when a democrat wins, it’s some genocidal shitlib like biden. And when democrats lose, they blame the left they refuse to listen to and move to the right because they want to and pretend that they’re chasing the votes of republicans, even though they know that’s not going to happen and even though they know no one’s actually buying the pretense.

  • I think both are true, liberals might prefer to lose over admitting they’re wrong but it also seems like the vast majority of them genuinely can’t wrap their head around how they’re losing. The idea that killing innocent people in other countries could possibly be enough to turn people against them is beyond comprehension.

Once they supported genocide, they forfeited the benefit of the doubt and lost all trust. Caution in the face of the genocidal requires that pleas of incompetence be regarded as apologia for malice. They know why they lost. They know they’re wrong. They don’t care. As long as genocide had unconditional support in the immediate term, that’s the only thing that mattered to centrists. They walked into this clear eyed and delighted to murder as many Palestinians as they could, consequences for the whole world be damned.

  • except I don’t go around literally lashing out at everyone in earshot as “you fuckers” or “you genociders” before they have even opened their mouth.

Nope, you go around assuming that anyone who has a problem with genocide must be a nonvoter instead. And you’re in abundant company on this thread.

That assumption is convenient for people who would like to silence all opposition to genocide, as it lumps the entire anti-genocide left into one group and blames them for the loss they warned you about.

It’s a bit ridiculous and 95% of people are going to immediately believe write you off as a troll.

Any opposition to genocide is preemptively written off, as you did.
