  • I’m not a child but young enough to live with my parents, and I have family members who don’t actually understand the stuff I like, so the last 2 or 3 Pokemon games I’ve gotten were because of them lol. They do this with anime I never even watch too. Whatever’s popular, they’ll buy it…

I still haven’t been motivated to finish Sc/Vi, it’s just that boring. Sw/Sh was also a tad mediocre, but I still enjoyed parts of it. At least LA was fun, albiet too short imo.

    Rant About Pokemon

But yeah the only thing I like about the new Pokemon games are the characters, music, and designs. Difficulty is abysmal, some villans/teams are fucking dumb (Sw/Sh was ass), and the day-one DLC is killing me. And while I’m far from a graphics snob, when seeing how old Pokemon games like Wii Battle Revolution had such good animation, and new open world games like ToTK and Xenoblade look and perform well, it just makes me wish GameFreak didn’t own the fucking series. And most of all is the lack of creativity.

We haven’t had a PMD game in almost 6 years, snd it’s been a DECADE since the last brand new PMD. Rangers was shot dead out back. Conquest is a corpse. The battle colosseum/revolution series is a skeleton. The last Rumble game was 3DS and was a pay to play mess. Same thing with Shuffle. Fuck Trozei, Dash, Pokepark, all of them. Hell, even Duel was kinda fun and it was a mobile game. I severly doubt if we’ll ever see any of these series again anytime soon. And it’s a shame because these are some of my favorite games in the whole franchise, that I literally poured hundreds of hours into.

Having said that, anyone got any good Mystery Dungeon games to recommend? I tried one of the Chocobo ones and put it down after like 3 hours…

  • Man, I love Lemmy.

People keep complaining and making posts like “ugh the Americans are always crying on my feed with lazy politcal posts, where’s the funny?” or, “Guys we really need to post more to make the Fediverse more active and friendly,” and then get mad when someone posts more than twice a day.

The account has posted like what, 9 times over the past five days? None of the posts featured AI slop or politics, nor did they only post a single artist or ideology (ie showing signs of being an advertiser/influencer). And we do have purposeful bot accounts on here, so being a bot isn’t inherently bad (especially in dead/low-activity communities).

We have no karma to farm on Threadiverse, so why are people freaking out about a couple of new frequent posters? It’d be different if it was all slop, politics, or advertising, but they’re literally just normal accounts. Do we want active users or not?

Nah, the artist is Lainey.molnar on instagram who hss been posting since 2020, at least according to this proxy website. Her artsyle pretty much always looked like this, and AI art definitely wasn’t that good back in 2020.

Funnily enough, her stuff is supposed to be abpit women empowerment and overall left-leaning stuff, but I always got a weird feeling from her posts and art. Lo and behold there’s a long ass reddit post about her craziness (natural treatments for mental illness, alcoholism, potentially faking queer identity, etc.) Also, I guess she might be an original art stealer, aka a tracer lol. At least tracing still requires some effort.

NOTE: Just because this artist is a bad person doesn’t mean people can be bigots. Don’t reply to this with some “huh looks like the SJW feminist was actually bad, women ☕️” shit. I will block you.

EDIT: Read the reddit post again and apparently she’s been known to recreate her image by creating and destroying blogs over and over. Idk when she started drawing, but she used to have a myspace blog, so once again, not AI. Just human slop.

When I actually did choose to buy from Chick-fil-A in the past, it tasted fantastic, especially the spicy chicken sandwich. Compared to most fast food places, they’re miles better in both taste and service. But I don’t wanna support conservative Christians that are homophobic so I choose not to eat there anymore.

It’s unfortunate that they’re Christo-fasc, cause everyone else is mediocre or awful (well, except maybe Popeyes Chicken sandwich) compared to them.

  • TL;DR: Misskey/Sharkey is our best bet, but network effect exists and I’m sad because I want more artists.

Honestly, I used Amino forever ago in middle school so I have no idea what it looked like before it died, but I feel like the closest Fediverse comparison of it’s functionality would be Misskey/Sharkey. It has a sleek UI that has a text and media focus (blog style), polls, offers chats (I think), reaction emotes, etc. You could totally make an instance around Anime/Games/Movies/whatever in general, or do focused communities on a specific media, like this Splatoon-themed Japanese Misskey server I used to visit, ikaskey.bktsk.com. I use Aria as a mobile app for Misskey/Sharkey and it’s not too bad, although the webUI for Misskey/Sharkey is truly beautiful and engaging. Threadiverse is too forum focused to truly count as a Amino replacement imo, but none of Fediverse truly fits with how Amino ran (for good reasons lol, we’re a federated social media, they weren’t).

The only issue with Fediverse anything is truly just the network effect. I have a Sharkey account at Sakurajima.social that I barely use because I just can’t find the people I want to follow. Same for my Pixelfed.art account and my Urusai.social (mastodon) account that I have following the mastodon.art instance. Federation kills a lot of interaction too, like not seeing another instance’s posts yet, or trying to like something and it failing to do so, or when you have to pull them up on their local instance. Misskey probably has most of the active artists, but you have to usually know Japanese (I am learning at least), use a VPN since foreginers are banned (and VPNs might not work), and then they defederate with most English instances anyway. Tbf Misskey did start as a Japanese made service, so that’s why it’s like that.

There are so many artists that I wish would at least move to Bluesky and use bridgy fed so I could see them, but most are sticking with Twitter and Instagram because they don’t want to have to move their followers. Fediverse doesn’t have the numbers, and we’re so tech/political focused that it’s hard to advertise ourselves. I check some of the anime communities here, but it’s mostly just posting news about upcoming anime, some borderline empty discussions (about anime I don’t watch unfortunately), and memes. I can’t even find communities focused on individual games and media I like, and of the ones that do exist, they have months between posting times.

Mini-rant about horny posting and art

I get that ppl are horni, and I did horni post on my old lemmy account, but LORD is it hard being a weeb/gamer who isn’t thirsty for women. I don’t hate all woman-focused smut (I am literally subbed to lascivious lesbians), but I guess I dislike smut intended for men. Wanna see cute art of the Pokemon cast? Nope! Here’s 50 posts in a row of only the females, in varying poses and positions that show off their chest, butt, feet, legs, etc while they blush. Wanna just see a pic of one male character smiling? Eh, if we check the dusty-ass archives we might find one. Want a NSFW pic of a male character? Sorry buddy! This is partially what pushed me from even bothering to join Misskey, there’s a shitton of HIGHLY questionable art on there that would be a pain to try to filter.

I miss my silly queer focused game/anime subreddits that I could retreat to when the main subs were being unfriendly or simply not posting what I wanted, but they literally don’t exist here. I guess i could make the sub myself, but I know shit all about moderating, nor am I sure I want to handle all that…

  • We barely turned our PS5 on until about a year and a half ago, it was the Switch that was getting all our love. Now we have a Switch 2 we barely touch and the PS5 gets attention cause games are on sale (nobody bought it lol)

I do PC game, but I prefer console because there’s WAY less fiddling and tinkering due to hardware issues or shitty game ports. I was excited for the FFVII steam sale until I saw the reviews complaining about stuttering and performance issues. I prefer a painless, boot-it-up-and-play-immediately experience over modding capability.

  • AI generated. I subconsciously noticed them from the generic artstyle, but I wanted to believe it wasn’t slop until I saw the comments. Probably stolen from cyanide and happiness artstyle.

Like others pointed out, the laptop ports keep changing, Red shirt guy has weird faint patterns going on, and the text in the scroll bar boxes doesn’t line up right.

Not old enough to actually havd any experience with clippy (I think the earliest Windows UI I ever touched was XP, but that was made before i was born lol), but at least Clippy was local and didn’t steal your data right? Even if he was useless he could be turned off and didn’t stalk you.

I haven’t installed it recently, but I swear a few months ago or so it came up with a selection screen for which UI I wanted. I can’t remember which I picked rn, I just know I think I switched recently because i couldn’t find the hanging indent to save my life, and I was writing a paper…

  • I mean, yes, he should’ve picked a less busy period to test Linux out. But trackpad and wifi issues could come up at any time, which would be troublesome. I’ve gone weeks wihout issues, only to turn my laptop on one day and boom, touchpad doesn’t work. And some days I don’t have my mouse with me to use. And the other issue is Linux is so varied and different that a solution for one person might not work for you. That and lack of proper documentation. I have tried doing crazy shit to fix issues, only to then learn all I had to do was toggle a switch in the settings, but my distro didn’t make it obvious that’s what i should do.

(This LITERALLY is what happened with my touchpad, for some reason it disabled itself in settings after an update a while ago.)

People don’t want to spend weekends fixing their tech, and that’s understandable.
