Technology@lemmy.world•Notepad++ Hijacked by State-Sponsored HackersEnglish
2·1 day agoUnfortunately i do work for a targeted company (we do a lot of secret squirrel stuff) in south East Asia.
We get a lot of attacks.
I was looking at the attack and malware they inject (there is a blog post link on the notepad++ notice) which pointed out how the attack worked. Apparently they run a service called bluetoothservice.exe. I didn’t see anything like that or any the other stuff they said gets created.
But then again finding malware isn’t my bag so who knows.
Pretty sure my updates came via nanite installer so I’m hoping I wasn’t targeted.

Fuck he brings it home.
The chuds have done it, they pissed off the Mr Rogers of science-tech tubers.
Considering his lack of public statements and actual support for Israel and zionism I’d argue your wrong.
Conservatively moderating a shit show that is Israeli subject matter is one thing (and I’ve been banned from reddit for pointing out how bat shit insane zionism is) but actively supporting the regime is a completely different thing.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Where to go now since Linux is mainstream
2·2 days agoMy PC is an electro mechanical pinball table from 1971 (Williams Klondike, btw) running Puppy Linux.
You guys are snobs. No, seriously, youre totally elitist. You feel like the unappreciated scholars, so you shit on the people who know less than you.
to show how rich I am.
A neighbour recently skipped out on his overdue rent and had all his shit dumped on the street. For a second there when I saw a optiplex style clone I thought i was gonna strike it rich stripping the DDR4 out of it
It was DDR4 but, sigh, 256MB sticks.
Wtf. I looked at the case and it had a XP sticker on it. No wonder he abandoned it.
This PCB was designed to be an arrowhead by the looks of it.
Which if you fire it into the exposed port on the drone that is hunting you, you’ll be a able to hack it to your side.

105·2 days agoWhat shits me with Linux commands is they don’t make sense.
Copy, diskpart, dir and so on make sense.
But Linux. Bah.
Cp, lsblk (sudo fdisk -l) and ls.
I know it’s an a old dog thing but having used dos and windows command line for over 50 years it just makes me so frustrated to see Linux commands and their switches, syntax and parameters so obtusely obscure, purposeful, unnecessarily filled with complex jargon.
I write sql and python so I’m not unused to this sort of world but everytime I use Linux I find the command line, the supposedly masterful feature of the OS, just painfully, unnecessarily, poorly designed.
copying and pasting strange commands from strangers on old forum posts)
Yes exactly the only way to obtain the help is via weird forums where you waste hours reading posts from people trying to do basic shit. Half the time it’s for the wrong distro, version or whatever bullshit problem you’ve got.
Like godforbid you want to mount a drive that won’t mount in the GUI version of whatever kernal distro ver you end up getting.
You end up writing ridiculously long commands to do shit I can do in a handful of words that make sense in plain English.
Just shits me that MS is hellbent on enshitificating windows, forcing us to find alt.
What choice do we have anymore
I’m using a 7700k from like 2017. I got me a 3070 and 32GB of ram and I can still play 4k @60fps on games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Dead Island 2 Starwars Outlaws (great game) and Cyberpunk (yes fine with DLSS).
And older stuff like F04, Battletech, HL2, Black Mesa, Fallen order.
Would I like something more powerful. Sure. Cyberpunk natively rendered would be cool. But it won’t really change my day to day. For that I’d need to spend way more on a fancy monitor which seems kinda moot when I’m already at 4k @ 60hz.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that a general strike is one of the most effective ways to push for change. There is a general strike in the works across the US for this Friday.
1·7 days agoCurrently there is no movement, just a national level reaction. A movement requires leadership, a significant level of coordination and mobilization, very specific set of demands and goals, and an underlying message/philosophy that is backed by the general public. We currently have non of this.
Which is why I’m so pissed at the democrats and not just the liberal right wing corpo ones but in particular AOC, Bernie and the other members of the progressive arm. They should be leading a general fucking strike.
And not just them but those adjacent to the party ie Jon Stewart, Colbert and Steph (and all the rest of the YouTube / social media sphere talking heads). Not only have they made incredibly lucrative careers attacking Trump, speaking truth to the insanity of the last ten years (because even under Biden it was always still about Trump), making it clear trunp is a clear and present danger to all.
I’m sick of their never ending jokes and serious moments.
A call to fucking action is required. The world is watching whilst you say your pretty, empty, words.
The time is now.

science@lemmy.world•He made beer that’s also a vaccine. Now controversy is brewingEnglish
31·7 days agothere are times when the process can be shortened in an an emergency, like Covid.
The core reason why covid RNA vaccines were developed and released far quicker then a normal drug or vaccine is due to the size of the trials, especially the phase I and II trials.
Basically most infectious diseases don’t really affect huge amounts of humans. Pandemics are rare.
However on the flip side is that you have small pools of people who are at risk of being infected.
However the covid pandemic massively increased the number of people at risk of being infected, especially those in the phase III trial. Consequently the efficacy of the vaccine could be easily identified.
And there were shit tons of people willing to be part of the testing.
That’s why the development got super charged.
That and a huge amount of money (oh and it didn’t hurt that the RNA vaccines tech had been in development for years prior. Kinda perfectly positioned for the perfect storm we faced)

It’s just like the ISP business.
20% of users generate 80% of the traffic. If the rest of the customer base used the service at level your local ISP would collapse.
And the same with banks.
Shit. Everything is a fucking lie isn’t it
