nah the patch notes were pretty similar to PoE patch notes. identify mechanical issues with the game and attempt to solve them with numerical nerfs. dont add anything new or fun, dont increase build variety, dont actually solve any of the identified issues, just make everyone’s gameplay feel worse

the only difference is that PoE is actually a good and fully developed game, D4 is not

PoE eventually became a decent if deeply flawed game. Definitely wasn’t like that in the beginning though.

They increased build variety by nerfing vulnerable and buffering nearly every other offensive ability. I’m a sorc and the buffs to cold and frozen dmg offset the nerf to vulnerable. You don’t want variety. You want your broken build back so you can power level. Rush to beat the content then complain about lack of content.

Except they didn’t. Even more than before, you need vulnerable and crit on everything to compensate because they are in different buckets.

        They lowered the build variety.

Lowering numbers doesn’t fix anything here, it’s the formula itself which need to be changed. Or they could put diminishing returns so people would use vulnerable / crit until they hit those caps and use other stats for the rest.

Right now, the only thing they achieves is lowering dps for every single build.

Fwiw im level 89 crackling energy sorc. Easily one of the worst subclasses available but i stuck with it because its fun, i enjoy the challenge, and im a stubborn bastard. I had no vulnerable on my build at all. The crit nerfs alone reduced my damage more than the other buffs. I even use 2 of the lightning specific buffed aspects. Combined with survivability nerfs, i can no longer complete the dungeons i could before.

I appreciate their attempts to increase viable variety. But the nerfs to the OP meta builds leaked onto the already struggling variety builds.

Found the only other dumbass on this website who plays crackling energy sorc. I loved it after the defense nerfs when mobs can now one shot me from offscreen if I’m not careful.

However, from what I could tell, my build got a major damage upgrade from the patch so it seems like our experiences are different.

I was really hoping they’d make crackling energy viable. Not surprised this shitshow of a patch made it worse.

Yeah, I was playing Arc Lash pre-patch and it feels bad now. Plus side, Season 1 starts today, so I was already planning on making a necromancer or barbarian anyway.

I was waiting to play sorc on purpose until s1.

Gonna keep waiting and play a different class, I think.

I haven’t noticed much difference with my lvl 59 arc lash Sorc so far, it’s still melting stuff left and right. Haven’t taken it through any NM Dungeons though or helltides yet though.

I’ve levelled an Arc Smash sorcerer to 68 in WT3. It’s not bad but it’s not great.

        I’m rolling a Necro.

These ‘articles’ that just end up being reading and writing about other peoples reddit and Twitter posts are so garbage.

Who do they quote in the article? “U/pm_me_your_shaved_balls”?

Oh he quoted datmodz and asmongold. So this ‘journalist’ just watched some YouTube videos and then made news out of it instead of just reading reddit posts like everyone else.

And then he cited another Forbes article to help bolster the article.

How did we get to become such a joke?

D2r works fine don’t worry about this stuff

If d4 is good, I’ll play it in 5, 10+ years from now, and so will many others.

If it sucks, no one will remember this.

Unpopular opinion, but I think the nerfing is good. I just finished the campaign and it was a little too easy, never really a challenge except some bosses that I just need to run around until I have enough essence, hit them and repeat… I just walk around sanctuary and destroy all mobs with one or two blood surges and then keep going.

To be fair, if it was harder, then I’d have given up on the campaign because it’s so long

I’m a sorc and the patch made little difference to me. My mana cooldown is slightly longer. Big whoop.

I’m level 69 (nice) with ~150 hours played.

The people crying about the patch were level 100 the first week and wanted to power level their S1 character by sitting idle in a dungeon. Cry moar. Or put the game down.

        Are you playing eternal?

I can see that without malignant hearts on the eternal realm, and the seasonal journey buffs that the nerfs might hit the eternal realm a little harder, but I can’t see why anyone would be playing eternal instead of season 1.

In d3 I never touched eternal characters after seasons started

I think the issue might be that the devs brought seasons out too soon. I wonder if they waited a year or 6 months, when more people where done with their first characters and ready to make a new one, it wouldn’t feel so bad.

If you’re level 69, this must be an eternal character. Try abandoning that character and refilling and see how the game feels.

I was getting malignant hearts right from the beginning of the game when following the new seasonal quest line
