Americans light fireworks for 4th of July. Sometimes when getting a little brave they hold them in their hands before throwing them, leading to damaged fingers
I worked at a hospital that would keep a record of lost fingers every 4th of July from fireworks accidents. It was always amazing how many people blow off a finger every year! There is a popular place in the areas south of Seattle, near Native American Reservations (they don’t have the same laws on the rez so they sell illegal fireworks) to buy fireworks and within half a mile and 20 minutes apart two people blew their fingers off one year.
Cab someone explain for non-Americans?

It’s our independence day, and we traditionally shoot off lots of fireworks.
Lots of fireworks (+ alcohol, + people trying to show off) winds up with some people losing digits.

Fireworks go boom, but not according to plan
