per Decision Desk, it looks like trump won. I’m starting to see a few outlets like NBC call Pennsylvania for trump, too.

as a trans woman, i’m fucking terrified.

yeah, if you voted for trump this election, after everything over the last ~9 years, you’re fucking evil. straight up evil. lots of people, worldwide, are going to suffer because of this as the world falls deeper under the influence of fascism. take care of yourself, take care of your loved ones, form communities, and be prepared to fight for your lives. we’re going to need each other if we’re going to to make it through this

I’m at one of the biggest airports in the world in the middle of a very red state today. The mood is somber. I have never seen this airport this quiet. There is no sense of pride or celebration here, and I know the majority of people around me voted for Trump.

If I were to speculate, I see scared faces and other faces too guilty to look anyone in the eye. Eye contact among strangers in an expectation here under normal circumstances, but not today. Everyone is aware on some level that this is a bad thing.

You don’t have to be trans to be fucking terrified. Trump somehow always underperforms in the polls, but we’ve now seen what this country truly is, and I want none of this. Already working on possible alternatives.

I am not surprised that Trump underperformed in the polls. His voter demographic is inherently sceptical towards the media and institutions, so many of them will probably not take part in polls.

I’m a cis Canadian and I’m terrified for everyone in the US. Even the ignorant masses who viewed for him. Project 2025 is going to dismantle American democracy, and with a stuffed supreme court, there are no remaining impediments to reverse this for a generation, until it’s too entrenched to change. If the USA lasts that long.

Literally wondering if an American civil war, or breaking apart into smaller countries, will be coming.

Longer term, terrified what this will mean for anthropogenic climate change and the world my children will inherit. (A climate-science denier is going to be the PM of Canada this time next year, too, and many are already provincial premiers.)

I didn’t think this was possible, tbh. I don’t understand how 51% of Americans can think the “grab-her-by-the-pussy” con artist is the best choice for president. He’s literally told them, repeatedly, what he’s going to do and they don’t care, don’t pay attention, or don’t believe him. I can’t even.

I’m going to go bury my head in the sand. No more news for me for the next long while. This isn’t good for my health.

As a fellow Canadian resident… this is brutal man. I can’t believe people would vote this fuck in again. Like, how can you look at his first four years as the most incompetent president in the history of the us and say “ya I’ll have some more of that?”

What’s also terrifying is the repercussions this will have on our country and our brothers and sisters down south of the American cesspool. Un-fucking-believable. Good job you guys.

They don’t, but due to a combination of voter disenfranchisement and apathy, voter turnout is usually around 50%-60% max. 2020 was a very large turnout at 66.8%. So 51% of 60% think he is. Still too many, but if we had a way to get every eligible voter a ballot, it would likely be different

My nephew is trans, with an openly hostile anti-trans father (my POS Trumper brother, who luckily does not live with his kids), and lives in a swing state that went red last night. Very worried for him and every other trans person in this shit hole.

I’m also pissed off that, based on the numbers we’re seeing, this is the second time that Democrat voters across the country have sat out rather than elect a woman. Honestly, I shouldn’t even be surprised anymore.

Stay strong, everyone, things are gonna get rough.

Economic disparity is going to skyrocket. The environment is toast. We may see military or militarized police knocking down doors. This is a nightmare.

We may see military or militarized police knocking down doors.

We absolutely will. What did you think mass deportations meant?

Do you think that every one of these millions of “illegal” persons being deported or otherwise detained will get due process to prove that they are actually a citizen? They barely get that now.

Do you think it won’t expand beyond the immigrants who are on that list, once it gets going and no one’s put a stop to it when it was “immigrants”?

I talked to someone in my family today who said he’s probably safe, because of certain reasons and the category that he’s in. I’m not convinced that he is.

I spent this morning getting the paperwork ready to get my passport and learning what I need to do to get out. I’m going to need to figure out some financial stuff and either sell or ship my vehicle, but the more I look the more appealing it seems. This has been a wakeup call for me. Things in the US are really screwed up, even before a second Trump term, and I absolutely can go live a better life somewhere else.

I’m looking at moving to the Netherlands! I have somewhere to stay, I’ve been starting to learn Dutch, and I’m in the process of getting all my plans sorted out! I do have some friends in Germany that I want to come visit at some point once I’m settled in, though, so maybe we could meet up at some point! It definitely would be good to sort of build some community in Europe!

That sounds like a solid plan! By the looks of it, you already checked the requirements to actually get into the Netherlands and live there for more than just a couple of months.

I can’t imagine how bad it must be for you to basically have to uproot your entire life, but I wish you the best of luck (wherever you actually have to rely on luck, like processing times for documents). It’s great to know that you do already have a couple of people in Europe at least adjacent to where you plan to go.

And sure! I do live in Bavaria, so it’s not the closest distance, but I’m certain we could eventually organise a meetup at some point.

No. She lost because a massive Russian and US-fascist campaign corrupted the state of the media until people couldn’t tell up from down.

“I care so much about the Palestinian people that I have no choice but to become ‘unexcited’ about the only candidate of the two who doesn’t actively want Netanyahu to exterminate them even harder” is yet another example of the nonsense-logic they managed to get into the conversation. If Biden had been taking a hard line on weapons shipments, the big catastrophe about the left candidate would have been something else. I can almost guarantee it.

False equivalency will be the death of our country. The media has been pushing this line for decades, even when it has become clear that the GOP has been getting more and more extreme during that time.

Even Jon Stewart immediately started pushing this garbage that none of this really matters, and we can just live our lives like it was just any other election. Meanwhile, all of his colleagues in late night media has been fighting hard to combat the disinformation in their own way, and this is how he rewards them.

Hey, Jon… in the words of Jon Stewart: “Go fuck yourself!”

I’m worried this will be the catalyst to things getting worse where I live, and I’m not even American. Based on 2016, this outcome won’t do us any favors either. I just hope that things turn out for the best

They will put up a fight. They will fight like Democratic state senators in Oklahoma. They will fight like the Weiße Rose. And then they will lose.

They can’t fight federal law, and they can’t fight against an uncaring, sociopathic GOP majority in Congress.

I mean, when federal law has been manipulated and tampered with, I think the question becomes, will people allow it to happen, or will they resist?

And at that point, I have no idea. You would be looking at mass protests and / or civil war at that point. They’re either going to have to be ready to literally fight for their rights or just give up I guess. If there’s no way to fight it “legally” (I use this in quotations because the GOP seems to want to change the rules so nobody can oppose them), then I suppose those are the only other two options.

I can not make sense of this election. I have been pretty pessimistic in the past, but never before would have believed that America was this rotten. The consequences of this will be dire, widespread, and long term.

Around 52% of the population voted that was eligible to vote. And over 15 million less people voted this election cycle compared to last.

This is what the people are voting for (or lack of voting) then they reap what they sow.
