Why no videos allowed, or can be uploaded? I mean I understand the community title is “cat pics” but why not just “cats”?

    We’re all using lemmy on self-hosted servers. Videos take up a massive amount of space relatively and they aren’t economical for those individuals footing the bill. Upload via 3rd party and share the link until better solutions are available.

      Op is asking why the community is called cat pics and whether videos are allowed here. Not just why direct uploads aren’t available.

      Side note: while I get your point, it’s not self hosted unless you’re hosting your own server. Even most server admins aren’t self hosting, they’re paying cloud compaies to host the instances.
