Eh? I planted the spinach seeds 4 days ago and they’re already sprouting. The cat grass took so much longer.
I think I sowed them too thickly as well, should have left room for more staggered plantings. Wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing. The carrots were definitely sown too thickly and will 100% need thinning once they’re up which feels like a waste of good plants.
I might just leave the spinach as is, uproot any that get ratty and reseed the empty spots. Or thin some of them for microgreens. (Might do that for the carrots too as the tops are edible.) It’s possible some will bolt when summer hits unless they’re brought inside.
I really wish I could plant pumpkins and zucchini or tomatoes but cannot take on that much garden
zucchini aren’t much harder than cucumbers, tomatos can be pissy but go gang in hydroponics. I’ve grown pumpkins and watermelon in a 50cm pot up a trellis. You only get a couple of fruit, but they’re whoppers
I just wish I had the room and the physical strength.
I do have a few small patches of soil but they’re covered in aggressive grass runners, I haven’t had the soil tested, a pet was buried there and intruder cats use it as a bathroom.
I’d do raised beds, huge buckets or grow bags with trellises (I was eyeing off the mini pumpkins) but am trying not to set up anything that would be difficult on moving
Have you seen these? I’ve raised tomatoes, eggplants, chillis, peas, etc very successfully in these over the years. Too small for melons, but very good for mid-size plants.

Spinach goes HARD.
It really seems to respond so well

Ooo… this is enabling
We may be actually passing on some of ours, but not this growing season. Still sorting the garden.
