I freaking HATE when people use my full name when my email, contact details and profile are all my short name.
Think calling someone Benjamin when their email signature and address are both just Ben.
Its condescending as shit, and like some sort of power play or something.
I remember reading somewhere that Bartholomew is my name in some other language (like John, Jan, Ian, Sean etc are all the same name). It’s just occurred to me that I’ve just accepted this as a fact for decades without ever actually looking into whether it’s true.
So now I’m just gonna come out and say it: don’t call me Bartholomew. Thanks.
I feel so bad when I’m emailing people who don’t sign off but they have a name that can be shortened. Like a Joshua or something. I don’t want to seem rude by saying Josh, but I also know people who don’t like the long version of their name (I hate the short version of my name and I have another nickname that is popular with people who have the same name as me).
I kind of have an opposite feeling to this, I have a long first name that is frequently shortened, and I get terribly annoyed when I give it to people and they go straight in with “hey banana” instead of “hey bananafungus” like we’re old pals.
I give people at work the option, “Hey you dont have to be Samuel if you dont want to, you can just be Sam” so I know their preferred name by their signature.

Ok TinyBreakdancer
Bobert instead of Bob, or Wilberforce instead of Will?
Bartholomew instead of Barry
We all know it’s actually Jimothy
Bortholomew
