It’d be pretty sick if after seeing the massive success bg3 was and how they were wildly off with their prediction, Microsoft pushes an order for pillars of eternity 3.
While I’m in this bizzaro world where Microsoft makes good decisions, I’d also like a Ferrari.
My fear is that they’d want to copy DoS2/BG3 and the resulting game would look and play nothing like Pillars.
Pillars 2 had a turn based mode, didn’t it? The gameplay is mostly there.
It was added months post-launch as an afterthought in reaction to DoS2 though, the first game doesn’t even have a turn-based mode.
I know the first game didn’t, by the time I played the sequel (though I didn’t enjoy that one nearly as much as the first) I did recall it being an option.
That’s a weird way to say that he is waiting for a call from Microsoft to make pillars of eternity 3
This is the best summary I could come up with:
In a world where service games rammed with microtransactions are being canceled and wound down left right and center, Baldur’s Gate 3 cut through this summer with a hyper-traditional isometric-style RPG, albeit with AAA production values, acting, writing, and visuals.
It’s rare that we see games that follow CRPG traditions of yesteryear with modern flair, but Microsoft and Xbox do have a range of franchises in-house that fit the bill.
Pillars of Eternity is a criminally overlooked RPG series that served as a modernized successor to the likes of Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, crowdfunded on Kickstarter previously.
The writing is witty, mature, and carries that familiar Obsidian dark humor, wrapped in a deep combat system and modernized, but traditional isometric RPG visuals.
In an interaction on Twitter (also known as X), Josh Sawyer of Pentiment, Fallout: New Vegas, and Pillars fame replied to comments about Baldur’s Gate 3.
We are getting Avowed, which looks tremendous, but it won’t scratch the itch for those who are seeking Baldur’s Gate-like experiences, particularly following the latest game’s success.

Well hell, while we’re all wishing, let’s just throw in a request for a Fallout New Vegas remaster. I would pay uncountable money for a version that I didn’t have to mod like crazy to make functional. Not holding my breath though.
