I made the choice of hosting some Fediverse software on a domain name I own, however that piece of software (Akkoma, upgraded from Pleroma) has since become unacceptably unstable, and I’d like to switch to something else. I read that if I’m already federating with other servers, I shouldn’t switch software on the same domain because that would cause issues, but like, surely those servers will stop trying to reach mine if it’s down for a while… There is documentation on how to fully uninstall the instance I’m running, which means deleting users and their posts, after which, could taking the server down for a while work?

It’s not really possible to answer without knowing which specific software you mean. Not sure why that’s a secret.

Oh, ok. It’s Akkoma (upgraded/migrated from Pleroma). I just thought that by actually specifying that, I was going to get XY Problem’d by people (how to fix it etc.).

if youre talking about activitypub federation, does it matter what software you use? theres a reason its a standard protocol.

i would hope that any instance of any federating software would just pick up where it left off with regards to activitypub… cept your server will be throwing a lot of ‘content not found’.

now, other pleroma or derivatives might be speaking with your instance over some custom api, and that obviously wouldnt work… but so?
