Hi everybody! Here comes another weekly general thread! A metaphorical dumping ground for all your questions, comments, musings, ponderings, quandries, dilemmas, issues, hangups, or thoughts pertaining to anime! Of course the list is non-inclusive. A couple example posts could be:

  • Any news on a season 2 for Inukai-san’s Dog? Looking forward to it!
  • Wouldn’t it make more sense if VRMMO-based anime were fully 3DCG? The games would be computer graphics after all…
  • I was on the treadmill at the gym the other day testing things out and holding my arms back like they do in Naruto didn’t help my pace at all. Does anybody else have experience with this?

As always, remember to be mindful of spoilers. If you want to know more about how to handle spoilers in this community, check the guide here.

I don’t have too much time to craft my usual tome of a comment this week, so I will keep it short. Quick hot-takes on a couple shows I watched during the past week:

    • Eminence in Shadow: Return to form after fanservice break
    • Frieren: BRB, dead after getting hit by Frieren’s flirting
    • 100GF: Next episode is gonna be wild for anime-onlies
    • Zombie Land Saga Season 2: Yep, still good. Hasn’t lost a step from season 1

@ram@lemmy.ca, if you would be so kind as to do the pin/unpin shuffle like normal, that would be much appreciated.

I think Kotaro Tatsumi and the girls from Zombie Land Saga should be viewed like Shou Tucker and his chimera from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood because they both tamper with lives in different ways: Tucker uses alchemy to make a chimera out of his daughter and their dog while Kotaro zombifies the dead and uses the medium to revive the dead people just so they can perform on stage as idols like Sakura wanted to before she died which just covers up the truth.

I haven’t been watching much anime ever since besides the ones I manage to watch like Astro Boy and Virtua Fighter and I’m still stuck on Zombie Land Saga…did I mention that ‘idols’ aren’t even in the title and that it was written so?

I tried to criticize the anime on Reddit and people were being salty about it and I suspect here on Lemmy you people will be salty as well too.

I think that is actually a totally fair way to look at the show. The moral implications of Kotaro’s actions are immense and dark. Also, the way he more or less threatens them with society’s reaction to zombies in order to become idols is extremely manipulative. I can totally understand why those aspects of the show would turn somebody off from watching.

For me, I have been enjoying the show after basically accepting those bits as the needed bits to establish the premise and then moving on. Namely, the premise of a group of zombie girls becoming idols. After the first couple episodes, they aren’t really brought up any more and the girls are all acting of their own will. They are even capable of doing the makeup on their own without Kotaro by the time you reach season 2.

I hear you, but this wasn’t the show I expected to watch back then. Zombies are just zombies, not fully functioning humans with dead bodies. The whole seems like a cheat in the narrative to me.

Even if they’re cute, they’re just zombies or should at least having zombie characteristics.

Instead, Kotaro breaks the law and makes his own zombies to take shots at the stuff I enjoy.

Think Night of the Living Dead or Dawn of the Dead or The Last Man on Earth if the vampires count as zombies like Virginia Morgan as well.

People should’ve had more faith in the genre.

Oh, and I made a zombie character named Maria.

Even if she functions to a degree, she’s still acting like a zombie most of the time and it’s supposed to be cute that way like the girls.

No magic necessary when the dead can come to life on their own due to an unknown phenomenon like the George Romero films, if you will.

Damn appreciate the info turns out I missed 2 of them last season. Dreaming boy is a realist really made me give up on the genre for a hot minute, haha. Hopefully next season is better thanks again
