Lots of nice cities in New York state if you ever are in a position to move. Beautiful places with nature too. Plus a lot of new yorkers retire to Florida so it’s like the opposite

Albany and Saratoga are fine, a few spots here and there are ok, maybe Ithaca and other bigger areas, but legit the entire reason I left Fulton/Montgomery (besides the rampant meth abuse and constant threat of violence) was so I could raise my kid in a place not dominated by rebel flags and red white and blue truck balls.
I’m actually looking at your neighbor to the east! CT seems to be a bit cheaper and a better fit. However I’m open to suggestions for affordable places that would be welcoming to my pinko commie ass
