To be fair, every single project regardless of proprietary or open source has a backlog like that. It’s just that open source projects show the backlog and don’t have marketing people telling what is and is not in the backlog.

Before Godot 4 the 3D engine was pretty far behind, think early 2010 teach. With Godot 4 it got an insane upgrade which puts it in par with Unity as far as I understand (not a unity expert), but still behind Unreal (then again, everything is behind Unreal.)

Unfortunately it takes multiple years for a 3D game to be developed, so it’ll be a while before we see actual released 3D games with Godot 4.

Probably. Especially with phone cameras becoming so good that we now need to transfer multi GB video files.

There is a lot more to a game engine than just graphics, although that’s an important piece of the puzzle.

Input, sound, physics, networking, collision detection, path finding, scripting…etc are all important parts that are handled by the engine.

I love the design, but it seems in my machine there are zero animations (not even a fade in when opening it) is this intentional or something wrong with my setup? Not a deal breaker, but a bit jarring with how smooth the rest of the desktop is.

To be fair, usb3 has been around since 2008. Surely apple could have afforded to pay 3 more cents per phone to support that.

I’ll transfer a bunch of audio books to and from my phone every once in a while. Since they are FLAC files I certainly do appreciate the additional speed from having a protocol that’s not yet old enough to drink.

I’m a plasma user and I would also prefer a fullscreen start menu. Ideally a fullscreen krunner with all its amazing bells and whistles.

We each have to make the compromise that suits us best. I doubt most people think one desktop or another is perfect.

I’ve been using Konsole since switching to Linux with the KDE 4.0 release. Never felt the need to switch.

Only thing I wish it supported is Tmux control mode.

USB C didn’t exist, but it was being developed, and apple was on the USB-IF forum which developed it. So literally part of apple was developing USB-C while another part decided “nah, we will make our own” and of course it takes less time to make your own than to make something everyone agrees on.

Having written some XMPP code in xmpprs, I can assure you, XMPP is not the best.

With the bridges to other networks, you can pretty much talk to everyone from inside Matrix regardless of what they use.

Then again, the DMA should kick in next year, at that point big players like iMessage, Whatsapp and whoever else counts as big (so probably not Google Chat) will have to allow interoperability between everyone. So they are going to be forced to allow you to somehow massage someone from Whatsapp through Matrix and group chat with people in Instagram and Signal all at once. Matrix has been suggested as the backbone for this interpretability.
