I’m a current MT resident, planning to leave because I can’t afford it anymore and I keep having to travel out of state for specialty medical care. And honestly, the number of times people have used slurs around me is too damn high

Not disputing that Montana is full of meth, but this happened in Minnesota
He sure did. He also famously made commercials urging evangelicals to vote against Obama because he was going to bring socialism and take away freedom. Lol

science@lemmy.world•Tinnitus Is Connected to SleepEnglish
11·14 days agoI had scarlet fever when I was six, and when I recovered I kept trying to turn the TV off even when it wasn’t on. My parents eventually realized the illness gave me tinnitus. It’s so weird to see someone else describe it that way because no one really remembers that sound anymore haha
I had a string of relationships in my 20s as well, but I don’t think any of them were healthy and I developed my own drinking habit to cope before realizing I didn’t want that misery for myself.
Dunno if you want any advice to consider, but I’ve lived alone for most of my 30s, and I have to say having a pet really helps. I have a cat and a dog, and the dog does provide more opportunities for conversations to happen just seeing the same people on the trails we walk every day. These are usually shallow conversations so it’s easier to avoid feeling like I’ve upset anyone (it still happens lol “why did I say good morning that way??” but it’s low stakes at least). But even having a plant to take care of helps with the loneliness, because you have this living thing that occupies the same space as you, and even if you can’t leave the house today you can still share being alive and existing with this plant or creature.
Anyway, I wish you all the luck with your move and your new future
Edit: I just realized we’ve commented to each other before, I was on a different account though lol. I’m glad your move date is so close now :)
I have AvPD, and I am sure there is a genetic link, but it’s hard to separate it from my mother’s issues and treatment of me. She had schizo-affective bipolar and was an alcoholic on top of that.
I’ve found therapy to be a bit frustrating, because I am able to cope with my fears and recognize when I’m slipping into avoidance but still unable to form connections with people. I’ve been released from therapy but still don’t have any friends or relationships because I still react to other people’s unpredictable emotions with fawning and then cutting them out of my life lol
It’s a very lonely disorder

science@lemmy.world•Scientists discover a hidden RNA ‘aging clock’ in human spermEnglish
51·30 days agoThis is epigenetics, changes to a genome via stress and environment that are passsed to offspring. We’ve known for a while that older men have children with autism or schizophrenia more often than young men, and investigating the cause and mechanism like they have in this study will help people have healthier children in the future.
The type of RNA that are involved in this study are regulatory, which means they can help or prevent gene activity, and are very important in the development of an embryo because the egg doesn’t have this in abundance like the sperm does

5·2 months agoFrom personal experience knowing someone who posted that stuff just to get a reaction out of people: he was beat by his dad (who then divorced his mom because she produced “that”) and was severely bullied in high school. It’s not an excuse, he just desperately wanted the world to feel as miserable as he did.
He showed me a video of someone being shot in the head once. Mind you, I’m the kind of person that breaks down when I accidentally run over an animal or hear a bird splat on a high-rise window. He thought it was okay to show me without my consent because the guy lived, but didn’t understand that violence, pain, and disfigurement are just as traumatizing as death.
He diagnosed himself with Anti-social PD while taking a psychology class, take that however you wish

I was going to bring up taking Abigail on a date to see cheesy movies and feeding her rock candy, but I enjoy the crane game a little bit more than that lol

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•ladies, how do I take care of my hold ups' silicone bands?
6·2 months agoWash the bands with warm soapy water, and you can try using alcohol to remove the oils on your legs to see if that helps. You can use thin plastic (I just save the bag I get them in) to keep the bands apart and free of lint while stored. I don’t shave, and haven’t had an issue with fine hairs reducing the staying power of the bands, but you may have more dense hair than I do
It could also be that they are simply too wide to stay on you, and this is what I’d bet is happening to you. They stretch a little while warm from body heat, and if it’s too wide there’s very little room to stretch before falling off. Generalized women’s sizes drive me nuts, a large in that brand would fit me at 5’3 and I highly doubt you and I share a thigh size. So my recommendation is that you try a brand for tall women, or at least find one that advertises a thigh measurement.
My grandmother fully believed in sasquatch as a species, with subspecies in various environments. The ones where she grew up in the northeast were apparently larger, less hairy and more fat than the ones in the swamps where I grew up. To this day I still think she had just seen hunters, but she knew what she saw lol
