FreddiesLantern@leminal.spaceto Linux@lemmy.ml•Windows 10 refugees flock to Linux in what devs call their "biggest launch ever"6·2 days agoWell, you’ll have to ask the person making that claim to begin with. I just added my take on the list of annoyances about W11.
I find your interest in the expression itself rather uninteresting. I do hope it goes without saying people say these things without meaning them literally.
All in all the step from W10 to W11 is such a letdown one might compare it to a backstab, underhanded or otherwise.
And with that I’m done defending an expression I didn’t use to begin with. Good day.
FreddiesLantern@leminal.spaceto Linux@lemmy.ml•Windows 10 refugees flock to Linux in what devs call their "biggest launch ever"11·2 days agoPlease make sure all your drivers are up to date and your screen is set to the correct resolution because it seems to be that you’re missing the bigger picture.
“Underhanded backstab” being the correct expression or not aside=> W11 sucks ass imo, get mad if you want to. (Something tells me this isn’t about proper word choice for you though, but feel free to correct me on that if that is a thing you care about)
Better be running Linux on that Console for the minimalist approach.
FreddiesLantern@leminal.spaceto Linux@lemmy.ml•Windows 10 refugees flock to Linux in what devs call their "biggest launch ever"14·2 days ago-we heard you like search bars so we added a search bar next to the menu containing a search bar.
-open wide because here comes the unwanted update train.
-you want to do thing with file?
No, bad user. Play candycrush instead.
-that’s an impressive machine you have there. Would be too bad if someone were to slow it down with tons of bloat.
-Telemetry? At good ol MS? Never.
-oh but all the W10 menus you love are still there, it just takes a rainforest expedition to get there.
-Just buy a one drive subscription and walk away.
FreddiesLantern@leminal.spaceto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•This just happened to me, and I did waste 1-2h because of it1·2 days agoWHAT FRESH HELL IS THIS?!
I have used Linux for a good while around the early 2000’s. Good memories.
Fast forward to now. Bought a new laptop with W11. hated it.
(Just imagine a long list of frustrations about W11, because I’m not going to contribute anything new by saying it) -and finally, I want my data to be mine!
And so now I get to annoy my wife about how awesome Linux is. My dad is on the train as well. We both annoy our wives with Linux.

(Through the package manager I might add, no files edited or anything)
Mint has a somewhat similar user experience. Chances are you’ll be just fine. Try out a live usb.
Wow there, easy, you’re gonna end up on ER.
At the very least take a smal phone.
FreddiesLantern@leminal.spaceto Games@lemmy.world•I finally decided to go full piracy against big companiesEnglish5·17 days agoUnpopular take: I’m just gonna quit gaming for a while. If I really need to piss away some time I got a bunch of wad files or newgrounds. F it.
I used Linux for a good while 20 something years ago. Mostly for recording music and some gaming (you can say what you want, cube/sauerbraten/openarena/… I had a great time that I look back to fondly).
Then got back on windows around vista all the way to w11 7/8/10 all “ok” OS experiences imo.
11… man, this thing frustrates me so much. Everything you try to do is like getting gaslighted. Updates/reboots whenever it feels like, regardless of what you have going on. (My setup requires a few keystrokes at boot, if not the fan goes nuts)
Coming back to Linux feels like a breath of fresh air. Especially now that installing/using it has become a breeze compared to back then. It does what you ask. Why doesn’t big tech corp get that through its thick skull?
Also, my data is mine.

I’ll keep you guys updated.
FreddiesLantern@leminal.spaceOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Installing Fedora 42 KDE, bios doesn't see my ssd anymore.2·27 days agoTried it, no cigar. Currently reinstalling fedora. It’s taking forever and it’s at 109% (what?).
FreddiesLantern@leminal.spaceOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Installing Fedora 42 KDE, bios doesn't see my ssd anymore.2·27 days agoIt’s the KDE edition(should have mentioned that), which afaik doesn’t really have an automatic option. But it seems you also don’t have to set all the individual new partitions yourself. I told it to get rid of the partitions that belong to Windows (dell support/image/…) to merge it into one part that fedora would do its thing with.
FreddiesLantern@leminal.spaceOPto Linux@lemmy.ml•Installing Fedora 42 KDE, bios doesn't see my ssd anymore.5·27 days agoIt’s just the main SSD. Thx, will try when I get home!
Oh man am I gonna double down on deleting my MS stuff. Gj guys!
