2·1 month agoIsn’t this a question of hubris? The title claims that “Rational People Do Worse”, but wouldn’t a rational person surmise that there is some information/mechanism they don’t have access to that the computer does in order to achieve the success rate claimed? In that case the rational choice would be to claim the single box.
The other factor not addressed is the $1k vs $1m. The calculus changes a lot based on these amounts. If it was 10 bucks vs the chance to win millions? that’s the lottery. if it were $10k it be a lot harder to walk away from that.
As a thought experiment, its a lot easier to say what you think the answer should be, actually making that choice when there is real money is psychologically different.
The fact that he tried to shoehorn in supply and demand just shows how this person is an actual conservative.
It really makes no sense especially in this era where we have fake descent on both sides generated by AI.
While I probably disagree with most of his politics, I appreciate the fact that he stands up and says Trump is a fucking crook.

2·6 months agoyeah, the back end is the scarier part. I don’t think conservapedia actually added that much content, it just copied Wikipedia and edited the parts they cared about. Automating that, while helpful, isn’t that big a deal IMO. Disseminating the resultant bullshit (with a hint of plausibility) is where the nightmares begin.

What are you talking about. the upper can brace against a backward force because it has steps behind him. The lower cant. Plus the lower has to lift their lance upward while the upper needs to lift it less. The high ground has a clear advantage here.

4·6 months agoHe is a moron to be sure, but crashes like this make opportunities for those with means to gobble up the big stuff cheap. Sure ground beef is expensive as fuck right now but I bet the wagu steak hasn’t changed nearly as much. Hell when the economy is going well the rabble want a taste of the good stuff. Better to keep them in their place.

I listen to mostly death metal and my wife is into musicals. Its really not an issue. I have gone with her to Book of Mormon (a musical), she has gone with me to metal shows… actually she used to get me back stage to several (she worked catering). Neither of us is going to choose to play the others music when we are by ourselves, but we can find a little common ground regardless.
