I worked with a woman when I worked for the federal government who was quite unpleasant. She left and went to work for a major contractor. I was on a call with her when several of her people didn’t show up for the call. She was raging and asked me where they were. I told her that I had no idea where her people were. She finally had had enough and demanded that I go find them and get them on the call. I said, “I’m not going to find YOUR people on your call with me, THE CLIENT. I don’t work for you anymore, Diane.” and hung up on her

This is classic right wing “humor”. They get butt hurt because we make fun of them so they think that humor just means hurting the other guys. They try, and fail, and we laugh at them which makes them even more butt hurt.

I was on a call with a bunch of engineers from IBM a couple of weeks ago. I was teaching them how to demonstrate our product (I don’t work for IBM.) After about a week on calls we were chatting and one of the guys told me that he was in the process of building a highly accurate replica of the cockpit of the F16. After a pause of about 5 seconds I said, “You fucking nerd!” which caused everyone on the call including him to burst into laughter.

I embrace every word that the dumpth try to use to slight me. Intellectual? Yes. Progressive? Yes. Woke? Yes. Bring them on. I’m all of those things and I’m proud that I am.

Of course not. No federal party will ever correct the failure of our economic/political system until we force them to.

Let’s pass a new law. Companies can’t pay bonuses, they can’t pay dividends, and they can’t make a profit unless every single employee working for the company makes a living wage.

I think their entire world view is based on projection. “I’m thinking about doing xyz so THEY must also be doing xyz.” Every accusation is an admission. They imagine scenarios of drag queens molesting children so they think that drag queens must be molesting children. They imagine queer youth orgies at queer math camp so there must be queer youth orgies at queer math camp. They’re angry about things that are only happening inside their own heads.

Their grievances are a Gish Gallop.

I would very much like to see an examination of the influence that US christofascists are exerting on the PPC, federal Conservatives, and the fringe right wing parties, and…for the benefit of the, BoTh SiDeS crow…the fringe left wing parties if anyone can actually name any.

They’ll start taking about it again in three years in time for the next provincial election. They know beyond any doubt that it’s a dumb idea but it whips up their base and that’s all that matters to them.

The end of the fiber coming out of the local CO is in front of the summer home for the rich family from the US. That’s about 3 km and a direction bored crossing of a county road and the 416 from my house. The surveyors told me that they were surveying the poles for Bell fiber and they told my neighbor down the road the same thing but added that the fiber construction was not budgeted yet. I think we’ll be lucky to see anything happen before the summer of 2025.

Until then, I’m going to stay on StarLink.

Geostationary satellites have high latency. 700 ms latency means it has a minimum of one and a half seconds of delay in a conversation. That’s going to make Zoom/Teams/WebEx extremely annoying. It’s also going to make online multiplayer gaming impossible.

LEO constellations are really the only option for modern satellite internet. I’m on Starlink but will happily switch back to terrestrial internet once Bell gets fiber to my door. They surveyed my road a few weeks ago so maybe in a couple of years.

Thanks. I didn’t give my username on Reddit enough thought. When I signed up here I was determined to come up with something better. I’m not sure that I won’t begin to regret this one but for now I’m happy with it.

Freedom Fires?

Yes. They voted for successive governments that gave them a pittance while allowing corporations to take billions of dollars of provincial resource wealth out of the province without contributing anything to the eventual cleanup costs. Then, when the wells dry up or demand drops and they abandon the wells the people who received that pittance will pay it back 100 fold to clean up the mess.

But at least the government told them they were spacial that whole time which is all that matters to them. That’s where the white rage comes from. You’re not special because you live in Alberta anymore. You’re not special because you’re “christian” anymore. You’re not special because you’re white anymore. You’re not special because you’re male anymore. You’re not special because you’re straight anymore. You’re not special because you were born here anymore. That leads to aggrieved entitlement which results in seething resentment.

We make our own caramels. I forgot them and had to buy edibles in Toronto at a really nice store. They sucked. Ours are way better. Someone came by yesterday and left with 64. That’s how you know they’re good.

I have a friend who grew up in a northern town in Alberskatchetoba. Her family went all in with the tantrumists. They were protecting our rights and they were going to stay in Ottawa until Trudeau was gone and all the mandates were lifted. She tried but ended up cutting off contract with some of her family.

Alberskatchetoba is the center of white rage in Canada. The feel that the majority look down on them as dumb, backwards, intolerant, hateful, racist, bigots and that makes them angry. Their seething resentment at their belief that everyone else thinks they are better than them drives them. For many all that matters anymore is hurting the people that they think think are better than them.

Who said anything about the government? It’s private citizens who were the innocent victims of the tantrum who are suing because they were subjected to weeks of diesel and other fumes.

The suit is not about peaceful protest. It does not impact anyone’s Section 2 rights.

The suit is about harassment, intimidation, torture, air pollution, racism, sexism, intolerance, shutting down businesses and putting people out of work for weeks, and other criminal activities that are not protected by Section 2.

No one gave a fuck about these idiots and their tantrum until they started committing crimes.

They fucked around and they are now finding out. That’s what they always say, isn’t it?

They came to Ottawa to commit their crimes they should be tried in Ottawa. Want to be tried in Upper Rubber Boot, Alberskatchetoba? Commit your crimes there.
