Just make sure she’s aware of the consequences of her actions. The amount of detail or tangentiality is up to you. If she’s smart she’ll STFU about it and it can be civil, if not cordial. But feel free to pull out the “I’m glad you like it when they zip tie kids” as needed.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I'd like to control my air-purifier with one of those power-socket-timer-switch thingies – Is there a way to "auto-press" those non-mechanical buttons?
3·1 day agoThere are some where there’s no hub, just a standalone (I can’t be arsed to check if you still need the job for switchbot itself). Worth looking at the knockoffs since I know some exist that don’t need anything else. And I wish the security were better, but for a simple case like this I think they’re fine.

281·2 days agoYes. SwitchBot is the biggie but there are a ton of knockoffs (google “smart button pusher”). The catch is that the security is crap - fine for what you’re doing, but I wouldn’t use it for a garage door, for instance.
I think you’d need a shortcut or script on a computer to run a scheduled task or cron job to start it, but pretty sure that’s available too. (Note - looked at them briefly, just wanted to respond while it was fresh in my mind)
In this case, different etymology/language. (I know, I’m ruining the joke)

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it true that Bill Gates has been committing genocide in Kenya?
13·4 days agoNo. It’s not true. You need to think more critically and check sources and seek alternate views. This isn’t a stupid question per se, but it’s hard to tell if you’re asking it in good faith.
Camilla: You, sir, should unmask.
Stranger: Indeed?
Cassilda: Indeed it’s time. We have all laid aside disguise but you.
Stranger: I wear no mask.
Camilla: (Terrified, aside to Cassilda) No mask? No mask!
Amateur. Girlfriend’s dad has over 1m. Yahoo actually cut him off, he went over the quota.
The terrifying part is once you get to that point, there are no tools to prune it effectively.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Could rising sea levels caused by climate change be thwarted by digging a big hole at the bottom of the sea?
1·10 days agoJust curious, does that amount of stupid ever burn? Because when I see that amount of ignorance I saw “the stupid, it burns”.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do adults have such big noses?
35·10 days ago“cartilage does stop growing. However, cartilage is made of collagen and other fibers that begin to break down as we age.
The result is drooping. So what appears to be growth is just gravity doing its job. Our noses and our earlobes sag and become larger. Adding to the misconception is what happens to other parts of our face. While our nose might sag, our cheeks and lips actually lose volume, making everything else look comparatively larger.”

Technology@lemmy.world•JLCPCB Locking Accounts, Mentions “Risky IP Addresses, Activities” | HackadayEnglish
593·11 days agoAnnoyingly, it gets through the entire article pretty much without explaining what the hell JLCPCB is, assuming that you must know what they are. It appears to be a Chinese PCB (printed circuit board) manufacturer, where you can send them a schematic and they will make a PCB of whatever you desire. It appears that they are now limiting who they take orders from, and it seems likely that other Chinese PCB manufacturers will take the same step in the future.
Overall I enjoy reading Hackaday’s articles, But this was too much “inside baseball” since they didn’t bother explaining what JLCPCB was.
