jeffw@lemmy.worldMto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does Apple hire ex-IFD cyber folks, how is that good for their image and the rumors about Israeli involvement or hacking and all the Israeli hacking stuff like Pegasus?21·1 month agoPresumably because every tech company hires people who have government cyber experience from any country. Why would one specific company ban anyone who was employed by one specific country?

I literally review research in my day job. I’ve never had someone present a study and say “we want to investigate this idea that’s waning in popularity instead of being on the frontier of science”
jeffw@lemmy.worldto science@lemmy.world•Temporary tattoo can instantly test drinks for unwanted drugs: studyEnglish5·2 months agoBenzos are about 5x more common than GHB in date rape cases from what I found. Best I can tell is GHB is about half as common as it used to be. Not super common, but ketamine and z drugs are used. Could even be dumping extra shots into drinks.

And if they did would they just be fucked from the start?11·2 months agoOhhh now the whole Rust controversy makes sense. I always thought it was weird that they got upset about 1 person dying when hundreds died for the John Wick movies

With that being said, we’ve always known cell phone use has a correlation with very slightly increased cancer rates. That shouldn’t be controversial. It’s not concluding that there’s a direct cause or even, if they did cause it, that it’s from RF.
jeffw@lemmy.worldto Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL Cell phone use greater than 10 years increases the risk for acoustic neuroma and gliomas.English19·2 months agoI always knew cancer caused people to use cell phones!
Edit: on a serious note, the confidence interval for malignant tumors is an odds ratio of 1.2-3.4, although a quick google finds more recent studies (I.e.: not based off of 1990s cell phones) are even lower.
