Technology@lemmy.ml•This Group Pays Bounties to Repair Broken Devices—Even If the Fix Breaks the LawEnglish
4·1 month agoI doubt any of their lawyers believe a single thing they say, but if it gets the courts and lawmakers to side with them, then they’ll say it. Most individuals don’t have the capital to fight it, so building up a ton of evidence beforehand to use if they have to defend against one of those lawsuits is probably a good strategy, even if it means holding off on publicly disclosing the solutions and fixes for now

Technology@lemmy.ml•This Group Pays Bounties to Repair Broken Devices—Even If the Fix Breaks the LawEnglish
15·1 month agoSharing the fix is what lands you in prison, in part because of dmca. The company arguments include circumvention under dmca, protecting copyright holders, that its “illegal hacking” (its not, its reverse engineering) and that no one wants to do it. This is tangible evidence that there are devices which were sold working, were remotely bricked, and could and would be working today if customers had ownership of the products that they paid for, and it can be done without proprietary information of the companies

science@lemmy.world•Could Psilocybin Be the Secret To Living Longer? Scientists Think So.English
9·6 months agoThe (US) government has a long history of outlawing useful, helpful or otherwise enjoyable things (MDMA, weed and psilocybin) while allowing more destructive things to proliferate (alcohol, opiates). Many governments worldwide still outlaw marijuana and some places will straight up execute people for it (singapore). Keeps the population in check and helped fuel conflict within the lower class to keep them from looking upward.

Craigslist/fb marketplace can be a good way to find garage sales so you dont have to negotiate a meet up time / place or anything. Also look for estate / moving sales. Check along local roads for signs on upcoming garage sales.
Thrift stores can be ok but can be expensive or not have great stuff if its in an expensive area. Consider going to smaller shops / delis and looking for if they have a section for local business cards; some places will have a section where people will leave a stack of business cards, so you might be able to find smaller thrift/antique shops that way, or find an ad someone has left for upcoming sales.
Also check: local facebook groups, local library in person / website
Not sure about other online sites or specific items though.
