Lovecraft’s stuff has that reputation, but on a listen through his works, he had a tendency to actually be properly descriptive when it was appropriate. I think it’s a case of later, lesser writers gloming onto to making things indescribable as a lazy crutch that made the reputation of the mythos like that.
I think only ‘The Unnamable’ by Lovecraft really goes incredibly vague at a point where it should be describing the creature, but that story feels like a joke about this exact topic.
Michael Shea’s mythos stuff is pretty good I think. ‘Demiurge’ is a book collecting all his stories. He updates them to the then contemporary 1980s, keeping the elements of cosmic horror but putting them in more modern and relatable situations rather than attempting to make them period pieces.
Tom Clancy has entered the chat and has started describing a submarine engine. Please help.

Drug use on its own usually doesn’t result in a court martial, which means it normally isn’t a DD.
Drug use would be a less severe separation like an OTH or general discharge.
The commander must have liked HST at least a little bit to have gone through the trouble of an administrative discharge, but not even downgrade from “honorable” to “general”.
Usually if somebody is a minor pain, everybody just waits it out until their contract ends and denies them the ability to sign a new one. If they are pain enough to discharge early through a pure admin discharge (as opposed to medical), there is usually enough hard feeling for a downgrade.
No phylodiversity, only Khlav Kalash.
That’s what I thought you meant, I was just trying to confirm, as I sometimes feel a step behind in tech conversions.
It is annoying not to have a button on the UI, but once you learn the hotkey this becomes a non-issue unless I’m missing something? I suppose this is an issue, but for a piece of free software like this it sort of feels like making a mountain out of a molehill.
The guns in the original games would share ammo pools if they were of the same caliber, the article described a simplified pool by class of weapon.
So now rather than separate 5.45mm and 5.56mm you have “assault rifle ammo”. It sounds minor, but one of the aspects of STALKER has been inventory management and making the choice when to main one caliber. At least for me. Hence my waiting on mods.
As for the minimap, the article is describing an additional always on compass with quest markers in the style of the modern Fallout games. I hope to be able to turn that bit of visual clutter off, and also hope that the game isn’t designed so much with the assumption I’m using it that I can’t find objectives without it.
It seems better set up for mass market success, and I support this for the sake of the devs, but for me personally when I read:
Most weapons thankfully use interchangeable ammo types across the class
minimap has been replaced with a compass permanently affixed to the top of the screen, pointing to nearby points of interest and quest markers
I can only think “mods will fix this”.
Isn’t that basically Dusk?
He still is, but as he’s become a kind of mythical figure in gaming history he has also become so in universe.
TLDR solar panels have a lot of inefficiencies, which makes them more of a detriment to mounting on standard commuter cars when you take into account the effects of the added weight.
It is his work, which I believe he was doing for quite a while without coherent lore to connect the thematically linked pictures. I think only since the game started actually being worked on he has been making art specifically for the lore.
He can’t keep getting away with it.
Doesn’t it? The people making the new game don’t want to dilute focus on their new product. When somebody searches for Delta Force on Steam, they want it only to return the new game. This is like when Rockstar pulled classic GTA: SA before dropping the remaster.
