Sometimes I think people forget we are animals, who have been acting civilized for a relatively short amount of time. Also, there are plenty of ways to damage our brains and increase aggression (violence, accidents, substances, etc).

Those early digital years were brutal. 28 Days Later looks worse with every passing year, probably never fixable (the cam’s resolution and quality was just too low).
Edit: Wow, it was shot in SD 480 for some reason (I thought the cam was capable of HD 720). Fantastic article, full of tech details.
He also brought twenty armed guards (and a medic?). They ate all your food, and ruined your toilet. He made too many “jokes” about impregnating things, chuckled, and left.
But where does it end?! Next, they’ll want better health benefits or paid leave, AND 17G SUPER FAST MAGIC INTERNET THROUGH THE AIR! Please think of the poor shareholders…
I’m a bit surprised Xvideos is still viewable in “Tread on me, daddy!” states like Texas. (Maybe Paxton really thought it was Elen’s homemade porn site? Just kidding, it’s Czech owned, they can just ignore his deranged lawsuits. And now the most visited porn site in the world. Republicans are killing American jobs, confirmed.)
Revenue improves. “We did it! But… line must always go up!? More!” Enshittification will continue until death occurs.
I think this is what motivates me to play AC games the most: They really integrate accurate locations and history into their story (with plenty to read and learn about in menus, and even tour modes). I was especially impressed with Origins (Egypt) and Unity (France). Haven’t had time to play newer ones yet.
I think many people would like employers to stop wasting money (on stuff like amenities and activities that were not requested). Instead, make the job more attractive by listening and responding to actual concerns (like WFH, hours, wages).
I used Power Delete Suite (javascript IIRC, via Firefox, year ago) to edit and delete, and mine are still gone. Not sure if it is still effective.
Reddit is probably less and less tolerant about edits and deletions, now that they’re full speed on selling our data. Still see plenty of deleted posts when I’m searching for things, which is… nice I guess (bittersweet).
I’ve finally made one tiny step into the Linux pool: Replacing my little old Plex server & NAS (mini PC, Windows 10) with… an even tinier Raspberry Pi 5.
It’s been nice to finally have an excuse to start learning Linux: commands, bash scripts, ssh, samba shares, etc. I’ve always admired lean, portable FOSS, so it’s way overdue.
All this talk of DivX, but no mention of (the open source alternative) XviD? Maybe people confuse them. I think I had way more XviD videos at the time.
“Geothermal energy is a DEI hire.” - Texas GOP next week (if the owners of company do not “donate” appropriately).
“This is your brain on drugs tips.”
But seriously: If a federal livable wage ($20+, adjusted regularly) killed tipping, what a relief that would be to most people. Tipping should return to being an unexpected surprise for truly exceptional service.
Yes, Musk has made people hate anything he’s involved in, or that enriches him. It’s only natural; Actions have consequences. He’s a severely mentally ill billionaire, increasingly detached from reality. And now his politics and disinformation are a danger to millions of people. If SpaceX or Tesla wants to feel the love, they know what to do. Until then, I can only assume they accept the consequences.
Branch is apparently a $4B Silicon Valley startup, that raised $300M just two years ago. They can afford Nova’s team of twelve, or at least more than one fucking dev. They even fired Cliff, the one guy doing support (social, Discord, email, etc).
That said, I wish they wouldn’t have sold out. Nova is one of the few things I want to subscribe to, very well earned. Nobody can reasonably complain about $10-20 per year for “Prime Ultra” or something. I don’t even see a donate button in settings.
I read this similarly. Most significantly, advertisers in the group are probably less likely to spend on tweeter now. The complete opposite of Elen’s goal. The advertisers simply “deleted” the group (not any actual ad agencies), because it was calculated to cost the least. The group, GARM, was an attempt to collectively manage harm to their brands, which they will obviously continue to do in other ways.
Yes we can. It’s in my blocked users, like any others (using Sync app). I’ve blocked it mostly because the formatting is lazy and word count excessive. It just “gets in the way”. Plus I generally already know the bias of most reputable sources, as do most news junkies.
Agreed. A real PITA to organize, some unintuitive and hidden options, but very basic. I’ve used sync and organized on desktop. (But now I do NOT sync desktop bookmarks at all, it has messed them up too many times.)
Not a huge problem, but annoying. Like some newer non-removable toolbar buttons on desktop. Lack of JXL support. I’m a huge Firefox and Mozilla fan, used non-stop for years, but it has annoyances. The team also used to quickly cater to user feedback, but that seems to have slowed.
I wonder if anybody remembers when it leaked Microsoft had a concept of a plan about restrictions on Xbox discs (used/shared), everyone gasped, Sony mocked them in a video about “sharing discs” on PS4 and became a turning point in the console wars…
Even a decade later: Remove discs at your peril! Half the reason I’ve even bought consoles is for Blu-ray movies (still unbeatable AV quality). Sony won both the console and disc drive wars FFS! Still not enough. “Line must go up more!”
I hope MS is at least mocking them back right now, for giggles. Before announcing a very similar thing next year…
