At this point, Microsoft has become a pretty big publisher, moreso than a console manufacturer.

Of course they would like exclusives to go away, that means selling their own games to more people, and distributing Sony’s games on their platforms.

Both combined would easily make them more money than selling consoles.

Would it? I think all of the exclusives are a good reason to buy an Xbox. Don’t underestimate how much these companies value ecosystems.

Personally I wonder how many people think like me and would never buy a platform using scummy tactics like exclusives.

Just see how many of us buy consoles. They all have exclusives. And that’s not scummy. That’s how shit has always been and that’s ok. If a dev can focus on one set of hardware/os they can optimize for that. Just look how amazing the latest gen Sony exclusives are.

Yeah this argument doesn’t really hold up anymore. It is not as hard as it used to be to make games run on different hardware. I don’t think it is cost prohibitive for them to handle multi platform on modern hardware with modern software. I also don’t think exclusives benefit the people buying video-games. Exclusives don’t seem to benefit the people who make the games. They are mostly beneficial to the companies who sell the consoles. And who gives a fuck about them?

… and their PC ports (except TLoU) run just as well, if not better, even on mediocre hardware. Exclusive are solely to make value for the publisher and the console itself. Saying that it’s somehow better for the developer is just blatantly false.

As it is well known, Sony has a controlling interest in Microsoft’s first/second party studios, and chooses to wield that power to make their competitor stronger?

When one console has much desired games that require a purchase of said console and the other one doesn’t, who would want to buy the one with nothing extra?

Sony only has control over Playstation exclusives. Microsoft could go full cross platform this instance and I can guarantee you Sony wouldn’t complain.
