Man, I really have to go out more. I’m the awkward person in the group tonight.

Admittedly I’m the outsider in a somewhat close knit group, but still.

    Noted.

Androids update for my phone has changed all my overlay weather thingies to Fahrenheit. I’ve gone into every setting I can find and changed it back to Celsius, I’ve restarted my phone, but it’s still Fahrenheit.

    😑😑😑😑

If anyone is wondering, it's currently 68°F

Mine did that, too. I don’t know what changed, but after a couple of days, it changed itself back to Celsius. It was weird. But ever since the update, it has a habit of not even telling me the weather half the time, it just says the date

Slightly related: outlook and windows outright refuse to respect my requests to give me the weather in Celsius. Windows is always telling me it’s 75f° in Melbourne or whatever, and when outlook sends me daily summary emails at 3am, if I have anything on which is just a teams meeting and doesn’t have a location attached, it will tell me the weather in a random city in California

It’s called “at a glance”, the colours behind it would be Stud’s wallpaper:

I fixed it now lol! The android 15 update reverted all languages to US English. So I had to go into every setting (there were 4) and revert them back to Aus English. Then changed the units to Celcius, AND THEN remove the widget and re-add it. 😮‍💨 But now it’s all metric again, lol.

I sent Pixel feedback about it via my phone lol, because that was a major pain in the arssssssse

It’s the just widget for the default Pixel Weather app haha

It’s nice seeing people’s Christmas trees. I myself don’t decorate because no kids and can’t be bothered. There are a couple of houses nearby that do lots of lights and I look forward to them putting their decorations up. So to all the decorators out there, thankyou for the Christmas spirit, sincerely from the non-decorators. We appreciate it.

I’m going through my social media profiles retrieving anything I might want to keep and deciding who to give an email address to. Perhaps a vpn might help me continue using them but then if I get caught that’s it.

I’m not expecting many people with weaker ties to keep in contact if I close them.

Ps. This isn’t actually going to protect children, just drive them underground and into unregulated spaces. It’s 100% a grab for surveillance/control and cheap political point scoring on the part of the Australian government

What are your specific concerns with the legislation? Are you expecting to be asked to upload your passport to continue using Instagram or something similar?

I’ve read the legislation and watched a fair bit of the senate enquiry into it. We don’t know yet what “reasonable steps” are to “assure” someone’s age (because they get published in legislative rules that have not been authored yet), but they don’t necessarily require linking with a RL identity. An example was given that it would likely be “reasonable” for Facebook to assume that the account holder is at least 16 if the account is more than 16 years old. So given mine is turning 17 in November I personally don’t expect any Meta products to ask me to assure my age using any method that involves my government identity.

Additionally, affected social media platforms can’t ask for government ID if that is the only age assurance method they offer. Some other methods include user interaction (does the user write posts like someone who is >16?) and facial age estimation (do they look >16 in their face pics?).

I’m just saying no need to panic and plan ahead for deletion just yet. If the legislative rules are “good” (as good as they can be in the circumstances) then you might not notice a different at all.

The writing style is very subjective… Mine are newer (remade) and I won’t be giving any more face pics. Or any personal pics at all after that AI scraping with no opt out. Also one is not my government name for safety reasons.

I’m trying to plan for deletion. Fuck facebook

The plastic bottle irrigation isn’t working as intended. Leaving the caps off means the water all just runs through fast rather than remaining as a reserve for the plant to sip from. Of course. The opening is too large for capillary action, there is too much air pressing the water down and out the holes.

If putting the cap on quickly after filling doesn’t fix the problem I may remove them and replace with terracotta pots.

I don’t want to have to… at least I’m doing all the initial mistakes on the zucchini plants which are quite tough

Edit: It didn’t work even with the caps on. I think I made too many holes. Fuck it I’m just buying some standard drip spikes.

I was also flipping up leaves to check for whiteflies and accidentally snapped the central vein of a leaf 😭What the hell. I’ve never done that. I’m distracted and out of sorts today

My mum got that working and it sounds like the problem is too many holes.

I think all it takes is one toothpick sized hole and you control the flow with how tight you screw on the cap.

Place is looking a bit more habitable, wfh desk setup, still very cluttered and need to get rid of the poang footstool (chair in bedroom piled with crap) which will open up more space.

Let’s hope my plants will look this lush over the next 6 months! These are the survivors after many deaths (and much neglect in a sunnier place).

Thanks! It is nice looking at the plants from the couch (where I took the photo). Starting to feel cozy. It’ll definitely look nicer once I get rid of the footstool and unpack some of the books.

You’ve inspired me to care more about my space.

The studio is awesome, but the rest of the house is absolutely a “bachelor pad” and not in the good way lol

I reckon you’ll find it easier once you’re closer to the city and feel more connected to where you live - and a smaller space forces you to get creative too as I mentioned to Spud.

Those are some nice-looking floorboards though, dang! Haven’t lived in a house with real floorboards in forever…

    It was worth going out!

Was decent and Defs feeling a lot better despite not having heaps in common with the people.

Time for leftover HSP, Cat cuddles and PS5
