Ahh… I’ve noticed Melbcat’s fur looking a bit spiky with a few greasy spots on her lower back. It’s hard for her to groom there because of a long back and bending with arthritis but I think the increased oil is from the vitamin b deficiency.

The mega doses orally from the fortified nutritional yeast and the monthly vet shots don’t seem to be enough then. I’m going to have to harden up and give her the extra shots at home.

For now I’m helping her with brushing and she hates it

Check with the vet first. Even at the end, Punkin didn’t need more than his monthly shot.

I was told by the vet because of her gut malabsorption (ibd) she would need shots weekly, I just have a thing about needles and was also afraid of accidentally hurting her.

Feeling bad as I don’t think feeding her the fortified stuff is getting more of it absorbed… guess I have to

So Indian Dubstep is a thing. I’m actually kind of impressed. Beats the standard Bollywood stuff you generally hear.

Edit: oh shit now it’s down tempo lofi! fucking cool!

It’s interesting that traditional elements are kept in these western song structures.

I made a big batch of chicken stock today. Seven serves in the freezer for future soups. Also a load of scraps & soft bone in the dehydrator for future dog food.

No xmas tree but bI’ve assembled the bookcase after much effort…

    rant at self

…and stupidly not trying to look up what it was beforehand (it’s an old mid-2000s model of IKEA Bestå shelf, the label was barely legible).

In doing so, tried doing it the wrong way around entirely and irreversibly snapped the tip of 6 cam lock screw/dowels that are discontinued (114928), on one entire side. The sides and centre part of the shelf no longer lock onto that side.

I’ve put the working ones facing the bottom so it still stands, thankfully, but it means this shelf isn’t even worth giving away for free when I move out, it’ll have to go to the tip.

Even though there’s a replacement part on thingiverse, I don’t have access to a 3d printer and it’d take a lot of effort to dislodge the old snapped ones, plus I’ve badly scuffed the edges of the bookshelf after all this wrangling.

Really annoyed with myself because i hate sending shit to landfill out of my own carelessness, but I’m going to have to just move on (and remind myself at least my consumption and waste ends with me).

At least the bookshelf is still usable for now and I can start moving shit onto it so I can finish unpacking. And it’s probably had a good run. Still, feeling low… need a win… that doesn’t involve spending money…

it ain't much, but it's honest work

Would some L shaped shelving brackets help? You can get a lot of different types and sizes and they aren’t very expensive.

I’m a bit hesitant to drill anything into the wall given I’ll be out of here in 6 months and don’t want to go through the whole spakfilla nonsense especially with a carpeted floor. I’ve got a friend who has a narrow lightweight shelving unit that she doesn’t need any more, that’ll probably fill the gap in terms of additional storage once I’ve cleared everything up. I’ll have to store some kitchen items in the living room as there’s simply no space

There are wax crayons made in most natural wood colours for this exact purpose. Lifesaver if you (or the bloody movers!) scratch a wooden floor.

Yeah I’ll probably cover the scuffs for now with permanent marker. Not sure if I will bother storing this/taking it with me when I leave this joint. Maybe my mood will be different then and I’ll make more of an effort to try and keep it…

If it helps you can sometimes borrow access to 3D printers at makerspaces. They would absolutely let you print out a replacement especially if it’s small

Actually if there’s one thing I really need 3D printed it’s a replacement for my fridge shelf. Fucking thing just cracked on me and broke 2 nights ago (with hardly anything on it - had to clean a smashed bottle of lime pickle to boot). Can’t seem to find a replacement, someone has a 3d printer design for something that looks similar though…

Hectic rain on its way, thank goodness - it’s been so warm and humid overnight!

Gonna have a bit of a lie in and then start on moving around shit in the living room and unpacking that stuff once and for all. And putting together the damn bookshelf.

Today is the type of soaking rain that is great for the garden. Pity my garden plan is to pull out almost everything currently there and put in some new plants that have not arrived yet!

Oh well, I do have some tomatoes that will be enjoying it, along with the potatoes I planted yesterday.

I have very sandy soil, so it washes out really quickly and also does not retain the moisture easily. I’ve done a fair bit of work building it up so it is better than it was, but it definitely chews through the fertilizer.

The amount of sales-related emails and texts I’ve been getting is staggering. More than any previous year I feel. These businesses ask for a mobile for an online order and then it gets used to spam promotions. Mass unsubscribing is in order.

Only slightly related, but my monthly average for spam emails on my main Gmail account is 100. Early last year, I got 22,000 in a single month. And they auto delete after 28 days…

Then, 2 months later, they all vanished and it’s been back down to about 100 ever since

I wonder if there’s a vegan equivalent to salami? The best part of salami is the spices they put in it so surely there could be a plant based equivalent to the filling part

I think it is also the fat which has absorbed the spices and spreads that flavour through the dish. You could probably infuse an oil with the spices and use that in a lot of dishes, but if you are trying to get something to eat like a stick of salami it would be tricky to get that sort of texture etc.
