If anxiety is an issue for you, you can ask your GP for diazepam explaining your concerns.

Like ADHD meds, they’re a single day solution unlike SSRIs and SNRIs which take a month or so to work with tons of side effects.

Negatives of diazepam: you may lose your filter and speak your mind. It also highly psychologically addictive because it near instantly solves the problem.

Note: I am not a doctor and this isn’t medical advice, but it is worth asking your GP on the topic which you wouldn’t have to wait until August to sort.

Not just psychologically addictive… They are one of the few drugs with potentially lethal withdrawal effects. The physical withdrawals are fucked too

This is why you do not ever abuse it and only use it in emergencies for actual debilitating anxiety, not every day. Playing with depressing the neurotransmitter GABA consistently is always risky. But there’s a reason why benzos are used to treat alcohol withdrawal (alcohol being another GABA depressant).

Have to mate, I edited my comment above to explain why I know this. I always have to carry them on me in case of panic attacks and have done for coming on 2 decades.

Doesn’t change my suggestion that they should speak to their GP about it as an option though as it really does solve the problem if they’re having a bad day.

I think I’d prefer to avoid benzos, but thanks for the suggestion. I think much of the anxiety will dissipate when the academic stress is gone.
