Elon Musk said verified accounts would be limited to reading 6,000 posts per day while unverified users will be limited to 600.

Gee what a great idea, limiting how much a user can engage with your platform which depends on user engagement. Elon really is a genius.

It looks like the limit is on reading posts, not posting itself. It’s way easier to read that many posts, especially if you’re glued to your phone and scrolling past dozens of uninteresting tweets at a time.

That being said, this limit is likely in place to stop web scraping or some such workaround to the need-an-account-to-view-stuff policy.

Looks like their $1bil contract with Google Cloud Services is up and they’re scaling back as much as possible until they can find a new solution. Elon, you cheap fucking moron.

Don’t forget: new unverified accounts are capped at just 300 posts. Once someone hits the limit, there’s also no way for them to see Elon’s announcement of the change. Great design.

Sadly, I’m sure spez is taking notes.

I saw a screenshot of some Musk tweets stating that he’s already raising the limits to slightly larger numbers. I’m not sharing that info in his or twitters defense, I don’t use twitter. Just thought it was interesting that he’s raising the limits so quickly, probably quicker than desired due to the immediate public outlash!

I wonder if they already fixed twitter ddos attacking itself from earlier today.

Rumor is that Twitter didn’t want to renew its Google Storage contract, but the migration to the new system is taking longer than expected. Now that it’s July 1, everything’s going to shit.

        Again, that’s the rumor.

Hugely believable. The place is running on skeleton crew who have to waste time catering to Musk’s ego whims.

I also read that when you hit the limit on desktop, the webpage sends 10 requests every few seconds. It looks like the Frontensegeln doesn‘t have the functionality to deal with the limit.

Who the FUCK is spez? Sounds like the name of some mentally deranged, wholly incompetent groomer. The only name I can think of that’s stupider is, idk, something like “Steve Huffman.”

Reddit was quite abrupt and efficient triggering a migration towards decentralized alternatives (ie: Lemmy). Twitter was taking way too much time to push users to the fediverse (Mastodon, Pleroma, etc.). Elon doesn’t like to be the second, so he’s rushing the enshitification of the platform to stay ahead of Reddit.

Not their social media platforms, or course, but they helped migrate more people to the fediverse

Isn’t the information Elon is trying to protect have large amounts of useless, there are tons and tons of AI bots pretending to have engagement. So AI harvesters harvesting AI posts is kinda worthless.

Twitter is surviving because of its addicts. Now, it’s likely to drop its userbase significantly. Plus, Musk restricting people who aren’t logged in from seeing anything makes the website practically irrelevant, and if this is sustained, Twitter will die in a span of months, if not weeks.

That’s really a shame, since it was a good platform to keep up to date on certain news events.

Now that it requires login to see, that kills 99% of the stuff I’ll be since I can’t be assed to log in.

Also sucks for any scrapers, walled gardens hurt us all, limited access to knowledge hurts everyone.

I came across this problem with official evacuation alerts when a forest fire starting within city limits yesterday. No login? Gotta wait for the cops to come around I guess!
