If the weight of the Democratic party isn’t sufficient anymore, it’s because Republicans have taken control over everything. And since they are being the fascist party, I doubt they would let any progressive party gain enough ground to do anything after that.
The centrist democrats who run the party are bad. When I refer to the party, I’m not referring to those people the party goes out of its way to avoid representing. They only get let into the tent via the servants’ entrance long enough to vote and are then kicked out.
When you say “Democrats” it is understood you’re talking about Democrats, not just Democrats you don’t like. Mamdani is a Democrat. Sorry it’s not a monolith that you can just dislike and it’s more nuanced than that, but that’s the reality of the situation.
Just like how the reality of the situation is that the Democrats, even though they suck overall, are the only political party with the power and sway to do anything against the Republican party. This means, sadly, we’re in a position where if you’re any kind of Left, if you care about any minority, that’s who you have to vote for.
Is there stuff we should be doing/are doing to change that? Yes. Will it change? We can hope. Is it changed now, so we can vote for someone other than Democrats and Republicans and they have a chance of making changes we want?

The weight of the party was not sufficient to stop Mamdani. And yet Republicans do not control New York City.
Mamdani is a Democrat and ran as one. You can’t claim him for team third party.
And the “you don’t like the centrist wing so you must be a 3rd party guy” assumption rears its ugly head.
The party fought against Mamdani. They failed. Sex pest Cuomo lost.
Ok but you can’t say “all Democrats bad” then when someone points out a Democrat you like say “that one doesn’t count”
Where did I say “all democrats bad”?

Oh so you’re cherry picking, got it.
Did you think I was referring to the currently powerless progressive wing when referring to the actions of a party they do not control?

No.
