Many are convinced you can’t have freedom and an affordable doctor at the same time. Americans are subjected to extraordinary levels of propaganda.
Propaganda has some people convinced that universal healthcare means having to wait for weeks for a medical appointment, and also that even that (made up) problem is worse than not being able to afford to go to the doctor at all
Meanwhile, even if you can afford it, you have to wait for weeks for an appointment under the current system anyway.
The real propaganda is getting those people to someone forget that’s already how it fucking works in the US
dont you months or years, even in places with “low cost or free” it isnt that long. in the states some healthcare providers have weeks or months out for an appointment.
Where I am in Canada we do have problems with wait times, and many people can’t find a family doctor. But it wasn’t always like this. Successive Conservative provincial governments have cut healthcare funding again and again, trying to force people into private for-profit healthcare. It’s the same story in the UK: public healthcare has been undermined by every government since Thatcher’s in the 1980s, and the NHS is not what it was.
Both are still better than the US system though, even after all the cuts. I usually have to wait about 2 weeks to see my doctor unless it’s an emergency. Emergencies can mean an hours-long wait at the hospital. I was recently admitted after an emergency and needed surgery and follow-up examinations including MRI, EKG, ECG, and a whole bunch of other tests with specialists. The care has been very thorough and the doctors excellent, and I have not had to worry once about costs.
Don’t let anyone ever try to tell you that we don’t have massive wait time issues in the US. We do.
I don’t think the freedom part is accurate, but the propaganda certainly is. The news tells them what to think and they don’t try further. They are convinced the United States has the best healthcare in the world, so nice, it cannot be put into a more affordable model without becoming unusably bad. They believe the Magic Market has created the absolute best and cheapest option out there, and the government can only mess that up. Individually, to those who use it, you almost always get complaints as we find ways to make it MORE inaccessible and MORE expensive (eg, concierge doctors), but even those people believe this is the best and cheapest way to do it. They themselves just got unlucky for their personal and not unique situation. The news told them so.
For roughly 40 years now, no party has been all that serous about changing it?
They don’t have preferential voting in the US so they’re effectively limited to two parties
Way worse, they are limited to two parties with the electoral collage system. Not just effectively but in law and policy.
Its not a functioning democracy.
How is that true when there’s a libertarian party that gets votes?
Getting votes and getting power are not the same thing. There is no path to president for any party outside of rebpublican or democrats. The electoral college of the states stops any 3rd party from holding any power at a federal level. The last time there was even a chance was the bull moose party and even Teddy at the hight of his popularity could not overcome the two party system back then, and they have since tightened the system down.
I’m gonna need you to point out very specifically what law prevents the libertarians from gaining power and presidency if they get enough votes. I don’t see how the electoral college stops them, or any third party, gaining power with enough votes
There isn’t one, just a lot of little rules that add up.

Such as the electoral college. On its own it doesn’t strictly stop anyone, but it increases the barrier to entry.
But if 92% are seriously affected I would assume that some people could found a single topic party and that they would be elected immediately.
I think you’ll find a major asterisk on that 92% stat if looking hard enough
Oh this is just one of many issues for which the public disagrees with the politicians. They do not work for us in the slightest. They work for the rich. This has been a known fact for decades. Even the supposedly good politicians capitulate for unity and soften “eat the rich” to “tax the rich”.
Now they’re just seeing how hard they can push before people fight back. With any luck, they’re just as stupid as the voting public.
