      I assume this is an argument that zoos suck and animals should only be in nature.

          Would you prefer there be a center to help fight extinction or just let them go extinct

      I think the author is trying to make a statement about how much better it is seeing animals in their wild habitat than the artifice of a zoo environment.

      The joke is that the character in the comic gets to experience this beauty of animals in nature and then reacts the opposite of how you’d expect. He doesn’t feel wonder and is so disgusted that he is led to create the first zoo.

      I think you could best summarize the joke’s point as the author saying “Somewhere out there is an idiot that saw these beautiful creatures in the wild and thought ‘hey this would be so much better if I put them in a cage and charge money!’”
