Imperialism is more than just direct military involvement. It has more to do with building global spheres of influence via the merging of bank and finance capital and the export of capital (debt). Invading countries is one way to accomplish this but not the only way.

It’s a good thing that China regularly forgives debt, and that nearly all debt issues in the third world arise from Western finance instead.
