  • I’ve owned exactly 0 playstations. The last new(ish) system I had was an N64. Could afford a laptop that could play games but also do schoolwork or have a console, so stuck with computers ever since.

The only time I’ve played Sony based games is when they’re on PC. So… guess Sony is losing my money. I know it’s not much, but interesting to get rid of the small revenue stream in hopes to get people back on console but I guess I don’t understand how fishing for whales is the winning task.

  • I have found a couple times an LLM being good for searches. My example is scooters in the US, because of commute I’d like to find an electric scooter, the kind like a Vespa. But you do a search, you find all sorts about the standing scooters, look for electric motorcycles and they start getting to car level prices or aren’t street legal, it gets to be a mess. Chat GPT turned that search into a relatively quick one that I could find a local place that I’m going to check out when there’s not ice on the ground. But the important part was making it require links. As a tool, it can have its uses.

So all of that said… Google and other searches doing AI did fuck all and nothing to help on this, and I agree 100% I do not want AI on the search for DDG

  • Ehhhhhh… I don’t have faith in it. The manufacturing sector has been in the process of getting worse back when I tried to get into it in 08, and finally gave up on actually finding work in the industry and moved to healthcare. I know people who’ve quit welding jobs because they hit the ceiling on pay and it’s still not making living wages here in the midwest.

Yet that’s an industry that has consistently anti-union my entire life. They just buy into the foreigners taking their jobs. I fear the programming sector will drink the same koolaid, just Indians instead of Mexicans.

  • Another thing that gets me is how many people will say voting doesn’t matter when they maybe only vote on presidential elections.

Voting is not a 4 year thing, it’s an absolute grind and locally can affect more of your day to day life, as well as keep building its way. higher up. I live in a state that so many people showed up and voted for bills that went against the state legislature, but they actually voted less for the people… now of course the state is overthrowing the things voted in.

So yes, SO VERY MUCH vote and be active in politics.

  • At that age, I was trying my hardest to figure out what I’m doing, to be together like the older adults.

I’m 39, I don’t have a clue what I’m doing and I’m more together than most of my coworkers, many who are older than me.

We’re all just trying to figure it out, so when you look up and think you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re with everyone. And if you know someone who says they have everything together and don’t have any issues, be wary as they likely have a lot of blind spots to their life.

  • Oh boy, Joe Rogan is just the newest flavor of awful. Bill O’Rielly started the whole current entertainment news by being a comedian who suddenly started being a right wing mouthpiece and any time he got called out on his shit it was “For entertainment purposes only” and he was on about the anti-left wing movements about coastal elites and unions taking workers wages.

But then the right wing even to then was building to massive corporations that donated to them, groups like the biggest anti-union propaganda machine in the world, WalMart. Notice that during the Reagan era they had “Trickle Down Economics” to fool people into thinking if the wealthy were just wealthier, then they too could be wealthier.

And the wars between groups have been speared on by the US since post civil war. Can’t have former slaves having jobs, that’d take from the whites. Can’t have people from overseas taking railroad jobs, that takes jobs from Americans. The big slaveowners of the American South were not the majority, so why did so many people fight for that confederacy? Because they were convinced by those wealthy that if slavery went away, there would go the economy… especially as so many people’s jobs were in existence to the slavery machine.

Joe Rogan wasn’t some new bogeyman who figured out how to overthrow the world. The rich has been finding ways to make poor people fight each other instead of them as a tale as old as time.
