  • I’m exaggerating here, I only have about 200 laserdiscs. That’s just a portion of my physical media collection. But I do really enjoy them. My toddler calls them “big movies” and we’ve watched Bambi I don’t know how many times. And hell yeah, Jaws and Aliens! I have the Criterion release of Silence of the Lambs, and that has also gotten a lot of play time.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean. Just this week I got my XP machine out for the first time in months and months. There’s just no time anymore.

Getting my disc drives working was a bit of an adventure. I have a Dell E510 that survived the capacitor plague. But for some reason, the IDE controller is shot. Luckily it had two sata ports for the HDDs, but I ended up getting a pcie sata card and then two IDE to sata adapters for my disc drives. I’m totally surprised that it worked.

  • I remember working both day and night shifts on an assembly line. Day shift was pretty good. The line was fully staffed, we had a full compliment of maintenance guys to fix the line when it went down. Good music.

Night shift was crazy different, way better. No management. Understaffed, and no maintenance people. So, some stations were always slower and you could sit down for a bit. Nobody was in the drive-thru at Taco Bell at 3am. And, it was seriously 15 degrees cooler in the plant. We never hit our quotas, and management was pissed. But we never had to see them.

  • That would be hilarious. I just only catch him in the strangest, most embarrassing predicaments of his life. He could just be a perfectly normal guy, but maybe I’ll run into him again in five years when he’s on the side of the road for some necessary reason in a donkey costume covered in ketchup and lube and he’s just like “It’s not what it looks like, I swear!!”

  • So, I actually had something like that happen once. In college, I had a terrible roommate that would always stumble back to our dorm drunk and never lock the door. Well, one Saturday I woke up to a guy in a bathrobe and a cup of coffee staring at me. He said “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you. Sometimes I like to come in and watch you sleep, it’s so peaceful.”

This is perhaps the weirdest thing that guy has done as far as I know, other than when I ran into him at Meijer late at night one time. He had a big stack of CDs in his arms, and he just said “you can never have enough bagpipe music!”
