Lemmy absolutely has the same “seems right, I’ll upvoted it” problem as the rest of the Internet. You’ll regularly find an upvoted comment that’s just not based in reality

1·7 days agoI had automatic updates on and rarely ever got prompted to restart. And when I did, I’d usually ignore it for as long as possible

95·7 days agoMan when was the last time you used Windows? The regular restart criticism hilariously outdated
My work computer has mandatory updates from IT like every 2 weeks but when I ran Windows on my own PC, I’d go months without restarting. I’ve restarted my months-old Fedora install more times than that
They exist but I’m not sure it’s standardized. Every time I’ve specced one, it was the manufacturer cable “for” that device. Same with USB and DP.
I’ve seen thousands of devices and those are the only ones I’ve seen with screws

linux4noobs@programming.dev•What would you say is the most reliable, "it just works" distro currently?
2·13 days agoFedora worked for me out of the box. The only software I had to install npmfusion (Nvidia driver) for a higher refresh rate and that was easy. But even without that, I had full resolution

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•EverQuest is the next legacy MMO to get the "classic" treatment after WoW Classic and Old School RuneScape, but with a genius twist: it knows all of us olds don't have time for MMOs anymoreEnglish
3·13 days agoHuh? WoW gearing is easy as hell this season. Yeah it’s not 2 hours until max level but there’s more easy ways than ever to get good gear. Hell, you can get a piece of the second highest level armor every week doing solo content
Some friends convinced me to try GW2 and I had the opposite experience. Everyone had all their fancy mounts and stuff from past expansions and I couldn’t do shit unless I went back and did the relevant campaigns…each of which is several hours. I got close to max level and quit. The combat is also painfully boring IMO
Personally I always get mad at the fake DJ when he makes a punchline at the end of my joke wedding text

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If you found out your cousin was a billionaire (non-famous) and the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, how would you react? Would you be mad he didn’t tell you?
3·15 days agoYeah. I think it could also use a ban on current politics, too, but not because it’s against the spirit of the community. Feels like most political questions are either bait or “I’m too lazy to read the news or read the comments of any news post so can you brief me on it”

6·15 days agoThe original purpose of the subreddit its named after was for questions that you’d feel stupid asking. Like “how often do I actually have to wash a hoodie?” Like common knowledge things you just don’t know. Askreddit was for casual or goofy questions like this.
There is no rule that makes this question unsuited but personally I think it’s a useless community without a strict theme. R/nostupidquestions just became r/askreddit2 and I expect the same to come from this one without any clear rules or moderation.

1·15 days agoYardi is the most expensive HOA software I found when looking and 25k/week doesn’t sound believable unless you’ve got 100,000 houses under management

1·16 days agoI had no issues running it a couple years ago…though it was a pretty disappointing. Very very dated and plain. I couldn’t remember how to get anywhere either and for a game so reliant on portalling around, it was rough

Lemmy is breaking for one of us

He, she, his, her…my dad will use each one to refer to the same dog at different times. He’s done this with every dog any of us have ever had. We’ve given up correcting him.
So maybe pronouns literally ARE too much for some people lol
