Oracle or someone worse would buy them. That’s how capitalism works.
Seriously good read on what to do next: https://wagingnonviolence.org/2024/11/10-things-to-do-if-trump-wins/
The fascist power structure is unjust and so it is like an upsidedown pyramid being propped up by pillars: people who do the actual work are the pillars. This pyramid topples when those pillars are removed. This can be a workers’ strike in a certain sector (example given was the eastern shoremen refusing to load weapons for a war).
I’m also struck by how the article says to handle fear. We need to act as community and flip the script on their fear tactics.
The author of the article also has an interesting interview with Sam Seder where they talk about more historical examples: https://youtu.be/YLBM2SEL6Rc
Musk just had a judge in Texas say they’re going to review the bid. I guess we know who the other bidder was now.
Consider that many people who watched the Joker and idolize him didn’t get that the movie was speaking against the character. Fascists don’t understand camp, and so they don’t get that it’s a critique unless the director explicitly tells them so.
Bo Burnham explains why with a song: https://youtu.be/oDQXFNWuZj8
Underated article. Do not surrender political space, find community, trust yourself, make strange alliances.
We can keep telling ourselves Mark Cuban’s “opportunity economy” was good enough but objectively it was a flop with working class voters. Either it was a messaging failure or it wasn’t populist enough, Bernie is saying it is the latter. If it was a messaging failure, then we’re likely to conclude it is because our media landscape is toxic. Bernie would agree and say that is why we need a populist message to cut through.
NAFTA and Wall Street bailouts come to mind.
In regards to Bernie, his premise is that wealth inequality is the core problem, which means tax the rich until they can’t have an outsized influence on our politics.
Oh, I think the people getting rid of Lisa Kahn have other ideas about competition.
The call is coming from inside. Google CEO claims it will be like alien intelligence so we should just trust it to make political decisions for us bro: https://www.computing.co.uk/news/2024/ai/former-google-ceo-eric-schmidt-urges-ai-acceleration-dismisses-climate
History starts when I say it does
Political parties don’t learn, they respond to power.
That or the many other demoralizing speeches. We did not need to hear Clinton talk about human shields.
You might be on to something in the sense that coming back with a more inclusive response is a better approach. I don’t think that makes them “right” though.
But then how will billionaires get to say they’re literally thinking of the big picture because they got to go on a brief space joy ride?
When the situation changes would you prefer they are part of a union or solidarity group or that they know to vote 3rd party in a past election?
Lots of people foolishly think political parties can learn lessons.
You think the political system is going to someday learn it’s lesson and work for you?
Whoever is elected is our opponent, the sooner you all accept that fact the better. Doesn’t mean you should pick a tougher boss level.
Idk, white folks voting for Trump is an issue if you ask me, a white guy. Too many white folks sane washing his shit. Morning Joe went from “he’s a fascist” to “let’s put out differences aside”. Other whities need to realize this is a grift that will likely kill your own.
