I’m so annoyed. There were recipes I wanted to pass down but I haven’t made them in so long that I’ve forgotten stuff. (Had written it down but the paper is lost to the ether.)

This was before I was big on the internet.

Also part of the confusion is because I used to double it. It’s ok, I can look up the basic ratios and make an educated guess about the salt.

Coles coffee has become weaker over time even if I select the strongest setting so I’ve been experimenting with my own recipe. 1 shot of macchiato and a medium cappuccino in large cup. Regular strength on both. If you go too strong it becomes bitter.

    You are welcome.

So I ordered a parcel off of eBay, and apparently it’s being delivered by some weird company I’ve never heard of called “EMEGA”

May God have mercy on my parcel.

Cant find much on them besides their ABN being created in 2018, and they are located in NSW.

I’m not paying ASIC for the data either - I miss when I worked at the SRO and had free access 😭

I had to talk myself out of paying ASIC for the records on the company that managed property maintenance in out of home care. They’ve been doing a shitty job for the better part of a decade, seem to maintain all publicly owned properties, and organisation management always gives a “don’t even go there” response when we’ve complained about them doing shit work.

In reality, it’s probably just cause they’re the cheapest, but I went through a phase for a few months where I was CONVINCED there had to be kickbacks or some sort of relationship between the owners of this company and people working in child protection and the housing commission. Luckily I didn’t have enough spending money to buy the report at the time, and by the time I did, I’d talked myself out of it

        I'm not a conspiracy nut

I want to go on a solo trip to Sydney or the Great Barrier Reef as a graduation present to myself.

My mum said, “No way in hell are you going by yourself, do you not have friends?”

And then starts blaming me for not going on holidays as a child because I didn’t want to leave my bed or was scared of unfamiliarity and missing school (which I wish I had missed because upper primary school was shit). Apparently they used to go on holidays every year or two years before I came into the picture.

However, a) my parents value saving money and have instilled in me the “You don’t need that rubbish” mindset, b) I’m sure I would’ve been on board with going if I had known what to expect instead of writing off the idea entirely because I was apprehensive and c) if she wanted to, she would find a way.

Aw Low, I’m sorry. I know it’s hard, but you should do your best and make a conscious effort to be adventurous, do stuff you haven’t done before, go on holidays, go see new places and try new things! You’re still young, you still have time to enjoy yourself

One of my workers I once had was in his 60s and had never left Australia. He told me something that’s always stuck with me: “if you always say ‘next year, next year, next year’, there will come a year you’re too old and frail to do the things you wanted to do”. I try and live by that. Not all adventures need to be a month away in South America. If money’s a problem: get a bus ticket and go to Mildura. If time’s a problem, hop on the train to Woodend, and walk to the bakery.

If you want to go to Sydney, go to Sydney! Again, if money’s the concern, a Firefly is $65 each way. If time’s a concern, catch an early morning flight, travel light, and fly out late the next day. I could barely point to the great barrier Reef on a map, but I’m sure there’s economical and time friendly options there, too

“No way in hell are you going by yourself,

That is how parents instill anxiety and phobias in their children.

      It’s not acceptable.

The answer is. “I’m an adult, I don’t need to have a chaperone”

And tell her you know lots of people who go on international holidays on their own and it’s cool. ( people here )

I kind of attribute my anxiety of being around people, or calling people, or visiting people, or meeting people, or really anything to do with people as at least partially caused by how much “stranger danger” and “never answer the door by yourself” was instilled into me as a young kid. They definitely are logical things to teach kids, but my mum kind of took it to the next level

There’s more to it, of course. The constant internal and external threats to safety and property over the last 6 years have not helped, but even before that I was terrified of people

Omg I can’t express enough how much you should go on adventures. You will not regret it. The world is there to be experienced.

Sydney is the easier choice and a great milestone if you want to ease into your first solo trip. You could (and probably should) get around without having to think about a hire car. If you haven’t been to FNQ or anywhere like it before, it is absolutely gorgeous. Depends on what kind of trip you’re after.

      Go Go Go!

If it’s the alleyway incident I’m aware of you now have the full Emergency Services trifecta. If so it could be a good opportunity to get together with your neighbour for a flashing light disco, it’s not every day you get free coloured strobe lights.

My much-used travel mug developed a minor leak which caused it to drip on me every time I drank from it. I ordered a replacement yesterday (the exact same model) and thanks to the wonders of Amazon it was delivered today. The wonders of the modern age.

I did an ultimate lazy move today. I finished shopping at aldi, realised I needed things from Coles, grabbed them, realised I needed stuff form the fruit and veg shop, grabbed those, then realised I forgot to grab an ice cream so went back into aldi, then realised I needed oil so had to go into aldi yet another time, then I realised as I was unpacking into the car I forgot pepper. I said “fuck off I’m not going back in there for another fortnight” and looked at Amazon. Amazon sell SAXA pepper, so I ordered it, and now some poor, underpaid, exploited soul will come deliver me my 3.50 jar of pepper tomorrow :D

(I didn’t take a shopping list because I had to turf a lot of food that may have been tampered with and this is my first proper shop since getting home. It was easier to make a list of what I do have, than what I don’t, hence the spice list I posted earlier)

I used to love all the milk bottles, teeth and strawberries and cream. Either my tastes changed, the lollies changed or a bit of both because I haven’t enjoyed them the same in years. Now I only get excited by dark chocolate coated liquorice or chocolate in general. Anyone remember wine gums? Mum used to buy all that sort of stuff, which nobody in the house liked.

A new gas meter was installed at my house and the readings are wild. My gas has been switched on with the new meter for just over 24 hours and if this reading started at 0, I’ve used over 2000m3 of gas in that time apparently. My previous reading for 28 days, I used 51m3. Something is very wrong here.

Call the gas company/distributor and you can report a fault. They may try to palm you off to your energy provider, but you should be able to explain what you have here and they can send someone out.

I remember a whole bunch of org rules (like paying for the service which will be refunded if the meter is actually found to be faulty, etc) but I’m not sure if they apply here.

Definitely check with your gas distributor

Thanks! I called the gas company and they put me through to AusNet who installed the new meter. They’re sending someone out tonight to check if there’s a leak. There has to be, or this meter is giving faulty readings, because the usage is just not possible. I also switched the gas off at the meter just in case.

Perfect, wasn’t sure where you are so I didn’t want to say ausnet (used to work for them).

Fantastic they’re sending someone out! Great news! Get some documentation if you can as well, to show your energy provider, in case they issue a bill or anything. Just a paper trail to say it was the fault of installation. :) ausnet should tell your provider though internally, they’ll get a list iirc

Loving this insider knowledge! I freaked out thinking the gas company is going to try and claim that I used that much gas and make me pay for it, and the first person I spoke to at the gas company only heightened my anxiety. He put me through to someone more senior who was way more helpful, straightaway she said based on those numbers there’s a problem. I’ve got several meter reading photos from the past 24 hours, and my bills with evidence of past usage to show how out of line this new meter is reading at.

I’ve worked for Tru Energy, Energy Australia, Ausnet, Alinta, and Horizon Power, so I have a massive knowledge base lol but mostly for Vic, NSW and WA.

With that evidence you have, and any documentation from Ausnet, you can ensure you won’t be overcharged if ausnets data doesn’t make it to your provider, or it isn’t actioned before your next bill.

Your provider may say it will work itself out in the next actual read of your meter, but you should be able to get it adjusted with a self-read. They may ask you to provide photo evidence of your meter reading, which it sounds like you have.

Once it is fixed and you have the documentation, save it and call your provider and go over your options. Don’t be afraid to politely ask for a senior, as they will have more authority (generally) to action changes/input your self read. Your consultant may push back before giving you to a senior, but that’s because their Team Leader and Management have KPIs and one of them is reducing “escalations”.

Let me know if you need further advice!!

Gave in and went to the doctor about this cough that won’t go away. She confirmed what I thought (a mix of sinus, reflux and general winter festiness) but I feel better having had someone confirm my lungs sound ok and it’s not some other weird infection.

And the sinus spray and reflux stuff is apparently way cheaper on prescription so that helps! Bring on the warm days
