The boys lasted until 10:30 before I got the call. I knew I should have kept them home but it was worth a shot
my kid was iffy this morning too. Fully expected to see him back home before lunch time but so far he is still going.
That’s what I was hoping. I thought he might have been in a better mood with all the other kids and toys, but nope, he missed his dad too much
Conveniently for me, I had a care team meeting earlier this Arvo, right after noticing the damage to the lawn. Apparently I’m once again being palmed off to yet another new child protection case manager. I think the last one lasted about 5 months, and the one before that 9. I don’t get good vibes from this one, she seems quite dismissive and rude
I brought up the stuff about the lawn and the ex housemate coming back to the house, and to be honest I was pissed, and definitely less polite than I should’ve been. I almost lost it at the district manager (she’s different (1 rank below) the area/regional manager). Both her and the regional manager promised all sorts of security upgrades (a gate to block the driveway, proper locks on the side gates, proper security cameras, and a deadbolt on the front door). None of them have even been logged with the maintenance team yet. They keep dragging their feet (which is pretty much the story of why everything that’s happened, happened as it happened).
The only real good news of the recent week is that almost all of my stuff has now been replaced. I’ve ended up with a few upgrades (non working devices > working devices, and a couple of things have been discontinued and it worked out cheaper to buy a newer model, due to the old one being considered basically collectable). So that’s nice I guess.
I’m once again left feeling unsafe and wondering if he’s going to come back. I did manage to convince them to buy another security camera, which I’ll sit in the old LTs bedroom which has a view of the driveway. I’m sure people on the street will be annoyed, because it clearly records the footpath and road too, but I don’t think there’s a lot I can do about that. It has the only decent vantage spot, and there’s nowhere else I can put it which’ll only record our property
I called the police. Apparently the assistance line can’t help because it involves a vehicle, but they put me through to the station. The dude laughed and said “what is wrong with people”, and I mean, he had a point…
Text messages from the cops always look so dodgy. “[Name] requests evidence from you. Click here to submit. vp.au/evidence” lol. My phone marked it as spam
The big boys are on now. Aka the big speakers. 👍
I tried my best. I hope I didn’t let anybody down. The competition was ferocious tonight but I’m happy to come out with a silver medal in competitive… gin rummy. 🥈 🇦🇺
Not a traditional birthday cake but we don’t do traditional in this house
That looks delicious. 😺
They are so good.
🙂
This reminds me a bit of my grandfather’s 80th birthday cake. Well you just try putting 80 candles on a cake, any cake. So Mum put a 75w light bulb in the middle and 5 candles around the edge. Grandpa didn’t know whether to be amused or offended. And he was easily offended.
That’s genius. I feel like after 21 it doesn’t really matter.
The kid got a candle stuck in a macaron and a speedy happy birthday song in the middle of Brunetti’s. Her friends loved it.
I’ve always admired your culinary expertise. You make it look so effortless.
I’m no half job Harry.
We will be commencing day drinking soon. Not too many because the third wheel has school tomorrow. Apologies in advance anyway because there will be soju involved. 🍺

I think my sports itch has been soundly satisfied for a while. That was a fantastic Olympics. We were in third place on the medal talley right up until the Japanese wrestlers wiped the floor with everyone over the weekend.
The heartwarming little video of the US Long Jumper and her husband got me to wondering how many similar stories were untold among the Ten Thousand athletes. A couple of the Marathon Walkers kissed at their introduction. Because they’re engaged. They keep talking about the thousands of condoms issued to athletes in the village, but some of those hookups turn into something more. It’s all very sweet. I love how positive the tournament has been in general.
Anyway, I still have a few events left to watch - probably tonight/tomorrow night. Maybe the Closing ceremony. Then I’ll go back to not really watching sports all that much any more. At least until the 2026 World Cup.
Don’t forget the Paraylmpics will be on.
I would probably watch some of it if it didn’t cost another $27. I’ll have to satisfy myself with the YouTube highlight clips.
We paid the $27 for the Olympics on the day of the opening ceremony, so our month runs out the day before Paralympics starts. It isn’t only the money, we honestly have overdosed a bit in the house for sport. The kids have gone to bed late pretty much every night over the last two weeks. We justified it a bit with “it’s only a couple of weeks every four years”.
That’s fair enough. It’s a shame it costs money to watch some of these sports.
I think it was mostly money well spent. My biggest complaint was the Stan editing team didn’t bother editing the field events, like at-all. The Pole vault competition for example could have been edited out to under an hour if they cut all the waiting around, but they didn’t bother. Same with pretty much all the jumps and throws. Most of them also had no commentary. No editing at all - just the raw feed.
Same story with many of the less popular events. Just the base feed. This wasn’t always bad, though - in fact I’d like the option to turn commentary off sometimes.
My best Olympic experience was when I had access to the British iView service during the London Olympics. It was like what we had with Stan: Every event live or on-demand, ad free. But the interface was loads better. That’s probably the other bad thing about Stan - the Interface sucked sometimes. They did try, to be fair. But finding some events was just not doable. I wanted to find the final Archery match between India and Canada - I never did.
Went outside this morning and saw this
Checked my cameras. Yesterday at 4:30pm he came back, drove up the driveway, and tore up my yard on his illegal motorbike thing. I am absolutely kicking myself for not noticing sooner, because I actually heard the motorbike, but there’s been a lot of goons recently and I’m near a roundabout. Lots of bikes have been joining around the roundabout, I assumed this was just a particularly loud one. Ugh
Ironically the last few nights I’ve actually started feeling safe. I was thinking “well nothing’s happened in a few weeks, I’m probably safe”. Then this happens.
Any advice, DT? Worth calling the police? I did manage to catch him on the camera, but he’s in a hoodie and helmet, and it very narrowly missed the plates
The footage is enough for a police report. If you know who it is and can provide the police with enough information to identify the rider, then they will probably act on that.
Even if all you give them is an example of this bike doing this at 4am, when the guy is eventually apprehended, they’ll pile this onto whatever he is charged with.
sorry who is he? I missed something.
Sorry, should’ve clarified. He’s the old housemate that broke into my room and broke my things while I was away. Seems he’s still pissed at me for one reason or another
Probably ex-housemate from hell

I’m trying to fit gym, tennis, swimming and other sports into my calendar and it’s lookin a real busy. I want to gym 3x minimum but this is what I’m mostly struggling with. Maybe I could combine swimming and gym on Thursday and squeeze in a rest day on Wednesday? idk
Mon - Gym (during lunch) + Tennis (match play) 1.5hrs
Tue - Tennis 2hrs coaching
Wed - Gym
Thu - Swimming 1hr
Fri - Gym (during lunch; alternate with Monday) + Tennis 2hrs coaching
Sat - Tennis social 2hrs
Sun - Gym / other sports

Primus sucks man.
Yep! That slappy loose bass is so irritating. Beaver song can get in the bin.
I had a dream last night about water some sort of edible plant and it was starting to wilt by the end of the dream.
I remember also eating one leaf or stem or something and it was the most flavourful delicious thing I’ve ever eaten.
Being awake now and it being a vegetable I know that’s a lie.
Took today off to focus on uni, predictably I have been “busy” with life admin/house chores… gone out to get a coffee, organised a drs visit, bought groceries, doing heaps of laundry… 🤪
That said I have a meeting with an uni person at 2pm which will light a bit of a fire under my bum. And I have mapped out exactly which papers to read and in what order so I’m confident I’ll make some progress.
That classic balancing act of whether to take the kids to childcare and risk getting a call to come pick them up, or have them stay home and deal with them the whole time.
My boy is in better spirits now the rest of the family is up, so I’ll take my chances taking them in
