Thought I’d be fine to go to work today but still positive and still sick.

On the bright side, having no smell or taste means I can eat ultra bland stuff without having to taste it. Looking at the box of bran I bought during my meal prepping months. Also cleaned up dog’s vomit (he’s fine, just ate too fast) and couldn’t smell it at all.

Can’t sleep. Miniest was upset before bed about how one day we’ll all be dead and she’ll be the only one left for a while. Pretty heavy stuff and she was crying and wanted to be hugged to sleep. I comforted her and told her about how when you’re young death’s hard to fathom because you haven’t started really living yet. How it’s like before you were born when there was nothing because you had no consciousness, but once you have consciousness it’s hard to stomach losing it. How it’s like for me in a way, with my parents and grandparents dead and my siblings are all half siblings who are much older. And I worry about the same thing but the opposite way around, that one day I’ll be dead and you kids will be on your own without me to care and protect and advise. Then she told me she’d like to travel and particularly go to America because there’s some really cool food she’d like to eat there, but it’s full of racists and idiots and guns so it’s probably not a place she’ll go. Then she fell asleep and I’m thinking too much now I guess.

I don’t think that fear ever goes away, we just bury it because it doesn’t really benefit us to dwell on it.

I remember having a similar meltdown when I was child for the same reasons, I think it’s pretty normal, though I say that while not having kids, and I’ve heard heaps of stories from my mates and family about the big feelings they felt as kids when they contemplated death.

It’s freaky, and occasionally I still freak out about it. But again, I think that’s normal as long as it isn’t all-consuming and paralysing. I hope you can get some restful sleep soon, friend, and miniest has good, happy dreams 💜

I ended up with pretty much all the west half of the country, and it got progressively more sparse from there. Basically anything further east than Texas I had maybe half a dozen or so, and the rest I just couldn’t find in my head.

I knew one of them started with G from the US elections, but couldn’t get to Georgia 🤦 Oh well.

Vermont I did get thanks to a comedian, I think it’s Tommy Johnagin. He does a bit talking about Texas and how it’s not uncommon to hear something like “we’re gonna beat your ass, Texas style”, and then points out no other state says that, like you won’t hear someone say “we’re gonna beat your ass, Vermont style”.

Odd things that stick with you that help with trivia 😂

    Saturday Weather: Is hot

Saturday Me: Let’s spend ALL day working in the yard without so much as a lunch a break, lopping trees and shovelling compost and mulch and taking a massive trailer load of junk to the tip!

Sunday Weather: Is rainy and a bit muggy

Sunday Me: Even though it’s raining, let’s keep going cleaning up more after yesterday’s activities and filling up another trailer load!!!

Today Me: You idiot. Everything hurts. I hate you.

Saturday was an “Orinoco Flow” kind of day, Sunday was an “ain’t no sunshine” kinda day. Today’s a “Cruel Summer” kind of day

Rest up if you can Gregsy, fingers crossed you recover quickly!

(I think I pulled a muscle on Thursday moving a box I put far too many heavy books into but was too stubborn to lighten up on and I’ve only just recovered)

Tech question… If I was to get a mesh wifi setup, would the stock standard Google one be ok? Comes with Mesh router and two extra points… Current setup is router and secondary ap feeding single story house and shed… Wifi is questionable outside and at furthest point from router…

    Edit… Or TpLink / Netgear…?

Oh, neat, I’m actually looking into getting a mesh setup at the new house. I settled on TP-Link Deco XE75 Pros. Way overkill for my shitty FTTC connection, but they seem like a decent enough option for my future proofing wishes

Fair warning, if you look on Reddit, literally no brand is good enough for anyone, and they’ll recommend Uniquiti/Cisco corporate grade equipment. Personally, I am only considering TP-Link or Netgear. However, Asus or Amazon Eero also seem like options worth looking at.

I’m avoiding Asus because I bought one of their routers and have had nonstop bad experiences with it. Netgear is on the pricier side and has a few less features at the price point, and apparently has gone down the drain (although my only experience with them was with a NetGear NightHawk 4G router which was amazing, but pricey).

I think TP-Link strikes a good balance of price, and feature set, at the cost of reliability and customer service. Amazons Eero devices seem fine, I am envisioning they’re somewhat similar to iPhones - less feature rich, a bit pricier, but more intuitive to setup, and less prone to breaking. But it’s Amazon, and some core features are locked behind a paywall

I’ve not got any experience with Google Mesh, and didn’t even realise they offered mesh, so can’t offer any feedback about it. But I do own a google pixel and have loved it, do kind of assume their mesh would be similar

Personally, I like value for money, and don’t mind having to fix things every time they break, including with hours of technical tinkering and research if needed, hence why I think TP is the best for my needs.

TL;DR: For you, I’d probably go with Google. Just know that it will probably offer less features, as you’re likely going to pay for the brand name and all the little things and general user experience/ease of use. But that’s my biased, subjective, opinion based on my other experiences with Google

Beautiful sunset out these ways, same in melbs?

    The tyre, btw:

Nobody in Heywood, Mount Gambier, Naracoorte, or Bordertown either had a replacement rim available, or could buff out the dent same day. That was an absolutely cooked pothole, but we got out of it safely. Still, we’ve had to do about 350km with another 150 to adelaide on the space saving 80k tyre. I don’t think they’re meant to be driven that far, but we don’t have a lot of choice. We’ll find somewhere in Adelaide tomorrow I guess. We’re nearly in Tailem Bend, and about 2 hours away from our hotel in Adelaide

Tomorrow was an intentionally blank day, I basically just want to get some postcards and stamps, nothing else planned yet. So having to spend the day waiting for a new wheel is no biggie. We’re hoping to find an auto wrecker or something that has this model of car we can just buy a tyre off, and fix this tyre when we get back to Melbourne. But otherwise, it’s a steel rim, so somebody can just carefully hammer it out for us, that just takes longer

Damn, that wheel looks fucked! I’d be so anxious about driving on the spare for that long (I had to drive on mine recently for like 15kms here and there all up and was having kittens). Fingers crossed no more potholes here on out and that you can get a new wheel soon!

No pretty sunset out here, too foggy

Definitely makes it easier if you actually have a 3DS. Citra can be demanding at times and the two screens makes it awkward to emulate some games. There are other options when you have a 3DS but it depends if you want to leave it as factory default

Let me know when you’re in the city and I’ll pop down and give it to you lol. I’m free Monday to Wednesday :)

$50 bucks is a rip, that’s almost RRP when it was new lol

    From Coles’ refund policy:

    Coles Brand products

In accordance with our “Try It. Love it. Or Your Money Back.” satisfaction guarantee, we encourage you to return the product, empty packaging or receipt of any Coles brand product you’re not happy with for a refund or replacement. This guarantee also applies to fresh produce and deli items.

I wonder how many customers try to exploit this.

Probably a few. They take your name down so if you become a frequent flyer you’d be flagged “on the system”. That’s how it used to be anyway.
