Meanwhile Russia and Belarus are banned from the Olympics because of the war in Ukraine. So the IOC already has an official stance with regards to the root issue. And it’s the side consistent with the athlete.

Technology@lemmy.world•Discord walks back age verification fears for most usersEnglish
30·1 day agoThey were already doing that.
Every advertising company already monitors you whenever possible to determine things like your age to target ads as effectively as possible. If a isn’t relying on a third party for advertising like Google AdSense, and they’re handling it internally, they definitely know that info.

1·2 days agoRoku devices (including the Roku TV models from various manufacturers) have a Night audio mode.
Samsung TVs have an Adaptive Sound mode that does similar. And Samsung soundbars have a Night mode in the SmartThings app.
Sony calls it Night Mode or Night Sound depending on the product.
Google TV also calls it Night Mode.
Hisense calls it Night Mode or Late Night.
Vizio calls it Night Mode
LG calls it Night Time.
Apple TV calls it Reduce Loud Sounds.
I’d say that covers “most”.

2·2 days agoMost modern TVs have a Night audio mode that will compress audio to a smaller spectrum, basically for this exact reason.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How are locks and keys mass produced?English
6·3 days agoNew locks usually tell you what key set they are on the package… So you can buy multiple of the same lock to rekey an entire house.
While the locks can be rekeyed to thousands of options, the prepackaged options will only be a few sets.

Steam@lemmy.ml•Any Chance of Denuvo possibly being Banned?English
221·6 days agoChances are basically zero.
Steam should refuse to list games using any form of kernel-level anti-cheat. It is inherently insecure, reducing the security of your system even when not playing the game, and there is no way around that.
But they’ll never take a position like that for consumers. That’s what GOG does.

Most Galaxy Note 7 devices were not affected by the manufacturing flaw. Most manufacturers don’t want to take that risk without larger sample sizes and edge case testing.

Android@lemmy.world•I’ve been a Motorola fan for years, but the Moto G17 is my breaking pointEnglish
4·7 days agoIt just needs to be the way Android works from that point forward, not something optional. If they want to have an Android phone, with the play store, and everything that comes with the ecosystem, that’s what they have to do. Manufacturers never want to change what they do.

Technology@lemmy.world•TSMC to make advanced 3nm chips in JapanEnglish
12·8 days agoOh they want to… There are quite a few chip fabs around the world… there are very few that can manufacture at this size, along the bleeding edge of the numerous technologies necessary to do so.
Having the knowledge required to build the fab, the actual hardware required to manufacture them, and the skilled personnel to operate it all are hard to do. This is not something that you can toss together in a cave from scraps like Iron Man.
And a lot of that is by design with companies and governments trying to guarantee sovereignty by tightly controlling where these can be manufactured. The idea that enemies are less likely to try to take over/colonize a smaller country (like Taiwan) if the global chip manufacturing apparatus can be destroyed in minutes to prevent it from falling into enemy hands.

There are two tracks of thought here.
The US Tariffs are raising the cost too high. So US inventory is not being restocked.
The DRAM constraints are raising the cost to manufacture too high. That affects both the RAM and SSD in the system. This would affect all manufacturing of the Steam Deck.
As for it only being the US, they’re not going to be shifting international inventory after already situating it in more local distribution centers and dealing with customs. So the question comes down to, are the international stores/distribution centers still being restocked, or is everything on hold and the US just happens to be the first to sell out?
