Hello world,
Today we are starting an April Fools charity event called: Lemmy Silver! accessible to all users of Lemmy with an account made before today (also non-world users!).
From now on, every 24 hours, you can comment !lemmysilver under any post in participating communities (see: this post for more information), or send a PM to this bot account with (!lemmysilver [username]) to award the poster points. We will keep a score depending on the amount of votes you send and receive. More details can be found in this post.
In this post we will keep a live leaderboard. At the end of April the users with the highest score will get these prizes:
- €150 to a charity of choice
- €100 to a charity of choice
- €75 to a charity of choice
- €50 to a charity of choice
- €25 to a charity of choice
If you are a moderator and want to add your community to the whitelist, type !whitelistsilver in the comments or in a PM to the bot account to whitelist all the communities you moderate, or send a PM to me (Thekingoflorda).
The prize fund is made up by personal donations from members of the admin team and the moderation team, no money from the Fedihosting Foundation is used for this event. If you want to contribute to the prize fund, please send me a PM.
We also made a little survey for this event, so if you have 2 minutes, please fill it out: https://app.formbricks.com/s/cm8x96xjc022vvt01xr0z9tdp
Feel free to leave any feedback here in the comments, in !LemmySilver@lemmy.world or by sending them to my PMs. The bot’s PM will probably not be read. Please be honest, but respectful and keep the TOS in mind.
Thank you everyone! Hope you have fun.
PS. The bot might be a bit unstable in the beginning, so please send all your complaints my way so I can fix the inevitable bugs.

Edit: typo. will enter command again
Quick question, it seems to me you do not have any communities you moderate. Did you use that command because my explanation above is not clear? I’m looking to improve the explanation (:
I have the communities but the bot doesnt detect those, maybe because those communities arent being fetched to the bot’s instance, or because I’m in a different platform?
I do create and moderate !TalkingTomAndFriends@thebrainbin.org, !Outfit7Limited@thebrainbin.org (officialy recognized by mods of r/Outfit7Limited), !TalkingHank@thebrainbin.org (r/TalkingHank, my own stillborn (closed while WIP) subr*ddit), and !RejectedMCsuggestions@thebrainbin.org (r/rejectedMCsuggestions, also my own, opened too early but closed after the API strike)
Huh, weird, those communities don’t show up for me.
thank you lol, just for clarity, I am not eligible for the price, so if I win the person after me can choose the charity.
Beat me to it by 4 minutes.

Wait this just posted? Sorry for my negativity, I shouldn’t have said anything at all. I’ll leave feedback in the survey posted.
Thanks for trying to get community involvement!
Next year you might want to announce the event earlier into the day, it feels like a lot of the world has already had their April 1st gone by, especially the social media aspect.
Oh no problem. It’s a bit of a trial to see how people like events like this.
And about the timing thingy, the problem was that I work during the day and want to keep taps on the first few hours of the bot so it doesn’t go rogue.

Lot better than that train wreck they have going on over at /r/field… well done, my liege.
On a side note, your gator faithful await your call to dethrone DeSantis. When will the beacons of Orlando be lit, my lord?Edit: Please disregard - that was meant for the King of Florida.
Yes, that message is better for the king of florida B, not me, the king of florida A.
I dont really understand the whole lemmysilver thing but thanks for getting a fun community charity raffle set up. You didn’t need to get a prize pool together so going the extra mile out of pocket to do that for a community event is such a cool move.
If I can answer any question(s) to make it more clear, feel free to ask (:
Does your vote get reset exactly 24 hours after your last vote, or is it reset midnight UTC time?
Exactly 24 hours.
Hmmm, time to find an app that can let me schedule a future comment then… Thanks!
If I win I will donate to the Red Cross for Myanmar Earthquake victims. Let’s do it lemmy!

Cool idea !
Thank you!
Cool!
Nice idea, thanks to the admins for coming up with this and putting their money to fund it.
I guess we’re likely to see a fair number of comments trying to award silver.
Can we have a “!repeatAward” or similar command? Reply to a “!lemmySilver” comment with it and you can award for the same comment or post. IMO that would reduce clutter because you can then just collapse the first award command and get on with reading actual comments. Maybe even delete all “!lemmySilver” commands after the first one, and DM people letting them know they should use the “!repeatAward” command.
That’s a good idea, will work on that after I’m sure the bot is stable.
You can also PM the bot to award someone lemmy silver in the meantime (:
This is cool!
Any rules for alts? Can people “claim” alt accounts to sum up their votes?
well we don’t allow accounts that are younger then the 1st of april, and cheating with alts that where made before that time is ofcourse not allowed. We can never catch everyone, but if we notice it, it would at least disqualify you from the event.
What I mean is that some posters have a bunch of alts on different instances, and if they get awards split between their accounts, then they’ll be at a bit of a disadvantage 😄
eh well generally it is linked to each different account. Not much I can do about that unfortunately, since two different people might have the same username on different instances.

This is great fun thanks for doing it
Thanks for putting this together!
It looks like a lot of people are attempting to use it on comments instead of a direct reply to the post, while expecting it to go to the commenter.
Can we get a confirmation from the bot of who the vote is going to?
Uh sure, yea will add that in the next update. But in the case you described it would go to the commenter.
Oh, awesome, I thought we had to pm it to the bot to give it to a commenter. Thanks!
