    How was everyone’s weekend?

Since moving out on my own, I’ve put on weight. I don’t know how. I’m eating healthy, my dinners are usually a combo of chicken, veggies, and rice (sometimes no rice), I don’t eat much during the day and don’t snack as much. No soft drink, mostly water, very little chocolate or sugary snacks. It’s frustrating so I decided to do some more active work. I went for a run on Sat and Sun morning and feeling it today.

    Old age is a killer.

I also bought some boxing gloves and a punching bag to do as well and plan on getting a bike to do rides with little one.

I got three concept ideas for my next book cover and all three are amazing. I’m stuck between 2 to choose from. Good problem to have.

I work in an old double brick building and I forgot how they stay hot for DAYS after a really hot day. Someone’s turned the office air con off and it’s immediately hot. I want to turn back on but someone will whinge that it’s too cold. Can’t win.

Che disastro, my street is blocked off for the next month for tram works, and the council promised I would still have access to my driveway. The construction company has decided no we won’t have access. So now the council is pissed, and I have one car stuck in the carport and one car that can’t get back in, and I don’t have permits to street park. All a complete cluster fuck, but at least the council are actually being really proactive about finding a solution for me.

Watching the Malcom Turnbul doco on ABC and it’s a real bitchfest. Barnaby Joyce called Malcom a shithead, and Malcolm has called Dutton a thug.

I’ve definitely caught something today, been feeling dizzy, sluggish and nauseous with an awful sinus type headache and a bitter taste in my mouth all day. Made myself eat but I think I’m gonna have a very early night tonight.

Finished reading The Ocean at the End of the World so I can finally return it to the library.

Now I’m gonna reread one of my favourites, Jasper Fforde’s Shades of Grey - or as much of it as I can before I fall asleep or throw up from this nausea - before the long awaited sequel Red Side Story drops tomorrow. 14 years!!! @lemondrop@aussie.zone I dunno if you come here much but I’ll be keen to know your thoughts when you read it.

I saw a $10 Kmart paint set that includes a few cheap brushes and tubes of medium… but my attempts at blocking in on the drawing app didn’t look good. I also don’t know how to mix/choose colours yet, and the chance of my sheets and my cat participating in the creative process are non zero. There may also be a sip of paint water on the cards.

    Must… not… collect… more hobby clutter

I haven’t even done another test run with the charcoal because I’m physically wrecked and spend all free time sleeping

Kmart paint isn’t worth bothering with. It has no depth and doesn’t blend properly. Brushes don’t need to be super expensive, but anything that cheap will shread in 2 minutes.

May I recommend these? Lots of colours, not crap and very not clutter. Grab one small pointy brush and one narrow flat one, or a cheap set Plenty to figure out if you like the hobby. These two pics will get you under $30. portable watercolours beginner brush set

Joining the caught-something club, I think I’m at the tail end of it. Went to an incredibly crowded place on Saturday. No fever but rather fatigued since Saturday evening. If it’s COVID it’s not showing up on the test. Maybe that’s what happens when I am freshly vaccinated.

I keep getting cheques in the mail from Medicare addressed to doctors who charged an out of pocket fee. The letter is addressed to me, the cheque isnt if that makes sense. This has only just started, but makes 0 sense that Im getting cheques addressed to the doctor right? Like, it aint my job to deliver shit to the doctor after they charged an out of pocket.

Is this some weird new thing Medicare are doing? I keep throwing them in the bin because its not addressed to me.

Medicare pays by cheque if the doctor provides you credit for the rebate, as a fraud control mechanism.

Medicare only allows electronic payments if the account is fully paid upfront (and then rebate claimed), or bulk billed.

Well maybe it’ll incentivise the practice to get with the times. Although I guess that once they to that it means patients will need to pay in full up front.

I think most practices still using PDVC do so to cater to patients who would struggle to front up the cash for the full amount (even just for the 24 hrs or whatever it takes before they get reimbursed) which is why I’ve only heard of it being used these days for more expensive treatments with higher Medicare rebate amounts.

If they can wear the 90 day delay in order to support these patients then good on them.

oooh first habanero for the season:

Also has some corking! normally see that shit on jalapenos. I guess that means the water do be good.

Generally pick the smaller ones when they’re ripe so more energy is diverted to the bigger unripe ones.

Which brings us tooooo today’s not so rave choon:

There must be a german word for the slight feeling of disappointment when your test results come back negative, and it’s not that you want something bad wrong with you but you do wish someone could tell you why you are so tired and run down lately… (other than just being tired and run down …)

Can completely relate. I had a full set of bloods etc. done late last year for pretty much this exact reason, and according to the tests everything’s just dandy. Feeling like utter garbage seems to just be part of getting old.

Quick laundry question. (Figured I’d ask as there’s parents on here and it’s probably similar to dealing with cloth nappies.)

For a small amount of fresh cat urine: A pre-wash cycle with biological detergent + dissolved sodium percarbonate in both the detergent and the bleach dispenser should take care of it right? Or do I need to soak the items in a warm/cool bucket of an enzyme powder like Pink Napisan first (or add an enzyme powder like that to the prewash dispenser) and then do the hot percarbonate wash? I sprayed the towels with enzyme pre-treater first but don’t always.

I’ve been setting the machine to 40C to not damage the washable puppy pads but apparently it’s more effective to use 60C with the percarbonate… With the prewash setting it uses cold water first and the Trimat Advanced Sensitive claims to be effective in cold/remove sweat stains… so rather than setting the stain, hopefully that’s washing most of the pee out first and then the percarbonate hot wash is releasing peroxide to get the last of it. 🤞

@melbaboutown @briongloid my maximum attack cycle (assuming you get the offending item fresh!) is presoak in a bucket of Sard soaking solution with the full quota recommended in the hottest water available for several hours. Then (front load machine) put another generous portion of Sard in the prewash dispenser and max half recommended detergent on a hot cycle (60+). Increase water level and rinse cycle as machine allows. Good luck!

Thanks! I’m used to doing dark washes with minimal/no stain removal necessary and have now changed to whites with heavy stain removal so wasn’t sure if I was doing it right.

Which Sard variety was it please?

@melbaboutown @AWStephen Sard Power Soaker. Bear in mind that Aldi now has very good equivalent products at sometimes significantly reduced cost. I just don’t have 25yrs experience with it like Sard.

Ah man… I feel like I have a tendency to accidentally stick my oar in a lot, or sound like a know it all. Just know it isn’t intended that way. I have little pieces of random info and am trying to contribute to the convo, tend to infodump, or am genuinely trying to help. I’ll rein it in.
